jezzaboy
I`ve been searching for a band for a few months now but every band plays the same old crap, mustang sally, stuck in the middle, blah blah. So, the drummer in my old band has suggested a punkish covers band as he is an old punk himself. He is going to get a set list together but as his taste is up his behind sometimes, if someone on here plays in a punk covers band and can give me an idea of some songs that go down well and are not too extreme if you get my drift, I would be most grateful. Please, save me from Sweet home alabamah!!! Jez
Clarky
A selection of Clash, Ramones, Pistols, Stranglers and some more left-field ones (eg, some Buzzcocks and Magazine) and you are sorted. Too many songs to mention but I'd defo have London Calling as the opener

Roland Rock
The Undertones, but avoid the cliché of Teenage Kicks. Here Comes the Summer possibly. Also some Stiff Little Fingers wouldn't go amiss This SLF one strike me as very Green Day-ish Edited March 17, 2012 by Roland Rock

the_skezz
Clash and Ramones always seem to go down well - also Peaches by the Stranglers; although we never played it properly I'd always throw the riff in during gigs to distract the audience while my guitarist was tuning, and it always got a cheer from them. 4-string-thing
I played in a band called Punk & Disorderly for a while and these are the ones I remember doing of the top of my head! 999: Emergency. Sex Pistols: Silly Thing, Pretty Vacant. Joey Ramone: What a Wonderful World. Sham 69: Hurry Up Harry. UK Subs: Warhead. Stranglers: Straighten Out. Clash: London Calling. Only Ones: Another Girl, Another Planet. Undertones: Teenage Kicks. Buzzcocks: Harmony In My Head, Ever Fallen In Love. Damned: Rip It Up. None of these were too extreme or too difficult to learn, we had a set learnt, rehearsed and ready to go after just a few weeks of weekly rehearsals. Great fun, maybe I should start that band up again!

the_skezz
+ 1 for Skank's suggestion of California Uber Alles - that always went down a treat for us. Even people who weren't so much into the punk songs would ask who that was originally by.

skankdelvar
Dead Kennedys? Second Division? I beg to differ
Only in the sense that they're not the first band to spring to mind when someone says 'punk'. Sadly, we always think of the big 4 - Clash, Pistols, Damned and Stranglers. Unlike many of the old punk chestnuts, California Uber Alles also has the virtue of being topical - viz: "I am Governor Jerry Brown". Said Jerry Brown was Governor of Ca. from 1975–83 and - (wtf?) - is currently serving his third term as Governor a mere 28 years on from his last incumbency. More songs: The Dictators - Master Race Rock Stooges - Search and Destroy . Edited March 18, 2012 by skankdelvar

Raggy
Most of what's been mentioned have been in our set at some point. They all go down well. Swords, no more heroes, London calling and hurry up Harry have always been bankers for us to get the punters jumping.
