chrismuzz
Meh, it's not a bad deal really if it's been setup really well. It is a pain in the arse buying a new instrument, and instead of getting it out of the box and having a wonderful time playing it, you have to mess around setting it up and ironing out the kinks. And if hes enjoying doing it and making a few quid more power to him
chaypup
He's pretty honest about it, and if people want to pay a premium for a well set-up bass then that's their choice innit?
apa
But you'd be better off taking it to a professional to have it set up. He goes on about 'pro setup' and gigging. He isnt a pro. He honestly says hes a 'guitar fixer/converter'. Whats that supposed to mean? Sure its out the box but youve also instantly lost your guarantee and is second hand by any other name. In my book when you go on like he does about what hes done to it its more a case of convincing yourself you know what you are doing. chris_b
Second-hand car and antiques businesses wouldn't be seen dead with such small mark ups, and probably wouldn't put as much effort in in the first place! the boy
This guys been knocking out basses for a while now. I think he's cool. He's got great feedback. He is a cheeky bugger but he's honest. More power to him I say.

Ou7shined
without looking. Is this the guy who converted the 7 string squire to 6 string. Raised the bridge to get a break angle and then used a chock from a 747 as a neck shim?
I think I missed this. Was it discussed on here? Got any links?
He's found a market and he's exploiting it...Good luck to him. If he paid less then he probably got it second hand which means you'd be buying a 3rd hand cheapo bass that some bloke has had a fiddle about with for £154 delivered! Ou7shined
It'll not be too far away it was posted on here it might have been in a thread with one of his previous set up basses. I had a look for the auction but it seems to have gone now. IIRC it was Wayne that made him an offer for it he didn't approve. Edit found the thread on here http://basschat.co.u...er%207%20string But the forum move has screwed up all the links.
Ah merci beaucoup. I think I remember it now. Same faces for and against I see. Loved the line about him half inching it off the back seat of someone's car. I obviously do set-ups as well and I (with my bass player first and foremost attitude) don't charge anything like what this guy is doing. Ou7shined
.... I'd be interested to see how he converted the 7 string TOM to a 6? http://www.ebay.co.u...g-/190568230765 Does a standard TOM fit the same stud spacing ??
Holy sheyit. I was starting to feel a bit sorry for the bashing... but that is just f*cked up. He's obviously found a source of damaged guitars which he is breathing 5 minutes of life back into and flogging off in these auctions peppered with as many big names as he can get away with ... and this is where he's ripping folk off. Yes he's disclosing info but at the same time he makes it all seem like it's either been fixed or it doesn't matter. There's nothing ethically wrong with doing up guitars and selling them on... if you are doing it right. This is just embarrassing. He "filled" the nut and re cut it? If he's that good he should be able to make a new one... and with less time and effort than it took to bodge this disaster. And wtf is with the bridge and crossover stringing? I've read it a few times and still don't get it - side-force? routed the saddles?? increased down force???
These DeArmond humbuckers have got lots of wires coming to them, which was a bit confusing; but I extracted half the neck humbucker coils, and so with just one coil driven hard it now has that sharp cutting edge of a strat for rock; and played less hard has greater tonal depth for clear chords.
Don't bother with one of those tricky coil tap switches, simply rip out all those confusing wires and "extract" half the coil.
I wanted to change the look of the head a bit so instead of converting it to a simple three tuners each side, I went for that Schecter look on their seven-strings, and put the higher strings on one side, and the two lowest bass strings on the other side of the head alone...
That was nice of him. Nothing to do with that the missing tuner probably took a knock en route to the supplier and seeing as none of the others on the 4 side fit flipped over on to the "2" side he just removed it leaving a hole....just like Schecter.
