kevin_lindsay Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Yippee!! 1 hour Classic Albums programme on BBC Four this Friday evening from 9-10pm featuring Peter Gabriel's album "So". Should feature some nice Toby Levin segments I reckon. Also, for those so inclined, there's a few hours of Prog Rick stuff directly afterwards. Quote
jacko Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Also has a chance to feature some nice Kate Bush segments too. I know which I'd prefer Quote
toneknob Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I'm quite keen on Kate Bush's segments as well Now what I'd really like to see is a re-run of the PG South Bank Special, filmed at Real World during the recording of his fourth album. Also starring TLev. Any opportunity: here's me and him comparing Funk Fingers while someone nicks his Musicman Quote
ezbass Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 My favourite album of all. Thanks for the heads up, HD recorder set up ready. Quote

Oopsdabassist Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Woohoo! thats my friday night sorted then!! I might have to do the youtube thing too Quote
urb Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Great - love this album and Mr L's very fine playing on it - a soundtrack to my teenage years... old fart alert! Quote
The Dark Lord Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I will at least record this. Great album Quote
E sharp Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 They had "Don't give up" on Radio this morning , and I just love that bassline . I can't really think of many basslines that are as integral to a tune (let alone a ballad) as that one . Double stops all the way - lovely Quote
gub Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Great stuff , cheers for heads up , sky arts have some good stuff too ! I saw a pink floyd one not long ago and was a really interesting , especially the bit with the woman improvising over the piano part in great gig in the sky , all done in one take and she came out of the studio and appolagized for it but they were just blown away ! risingson Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Absolutely love Tony Levin's playing. I do wish he'd give up the Chapman Stick though, really not my thing, sounds a bit like a car crash! But his stuff with Peter Gabriel is truly excellent. Quote
paul j h Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 One of my all time favourite albums, great songs and playing, but as a long time PG fan i still prefer the first solo album. Cheers Paul. Quote

[/quote]I'm pretty sure Shock The Monkey is played on Stick, and there are assuredly others too, but I take your point, his solo Stick work is a specific taste thing (not really mine). Quote
Rumple Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Those weird sticks on his fingers he uses sometimes are a bit odd. Quote
ezbass Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Marvellous program, should've been 15 minutes longer though so they could've dealt with Big Time. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Yeah, I'd hoped they'd feature the section with Jerry Marotta playing Tony Levin's bass strings with his drumsticks while Tony fingered the notes! Great programme all the same Quote
