Mornats
Oh, and as this is a random thread, SteveO - I've actually been to Honefoss which I noticed you're from (apologies for missing the accents off that). I've got a few mates who live there.
Wil
Having been born and raised in Bath, it's not Baff, or Barth, it's, er... Bath!
Big_Stu
So being from the north I have a bass guitar, pronounced like "crass" guitar
I'm from the north too & the only other northerner I've heard saying it that way says it because some knob in a band he used to like said it that way to wind folk up. It's also how they call it in Holland - and maybe other Germanic languages(?) It's ba(se) because it makes a bass note; not bass like a fish just because one user on here had a bird who pee'd on one of his!
Pinball
I'm from Northumberland and now (spookily) also live in Bristol
That is spooky
Big_Stu
Ahem, what about the palace in Perth, "Skoon"? Hang on I'm getting déjà vu here.
Yeah, but that's nothing to do with the jam n' cream cake. It's cos some bloke went up to a big chair up there and said "Hoots! Whurs oor Stane o' Destiny?" N' the boy next tae him says "Ah dinnae ken, s'gone!" True story - it is - you think I'm joking
xgsjx
Ahem, what about the palace in Perth, "Skoon"? Hang on I'm getting déjà vu here.
Ahh, but Scone Palace isn't in Perth, it's in Scone (pronounced Skoon). To clear up your Bass dilemma, here's how it is said... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43YGbhwBHds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgUoLrS5tjc Happy now? ras52
But surely Scone rhymes with one: "So, thanks to all at once and to each one, Whom we invite to see us crown'd at Scone."

tauzero
I am, however, with you on "scon". All the way. And whilst I'm at it, it's Baff not Barth when referring to Bath. And if someone asks if I'm from Newcarsel, I say no, I'm from Newcassle.
Quite. Any fule kno that Newcarsel is just by St Oke, somewhere north of St Afford.
Skol303
So being from the north I have a bass guitar, pronounced like "crass" guitar but I'm finding that others down here in the south have bass guitars they call base guitars.
^ You're winding us up, right?? Bass as in ace... unless it's the Bass Brewery, in which case it's pronounced like crass. PS: this thread made me think of this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5iG11s-dok Edited March 23, 2012 by Skol303
