TheGreek Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012
deffinitely my own (link in sig) There are other tones I have loved in the past though: Dirk Lance from Incubus, Timmy C on Evil Empire, a lot of the tones on Muse's Origin of Symmetry, Justin Chancellor, the guy from Karnivool. Now i've managed to surpass all these and I literally have the perfect tone(s) for me.
I had a listen..like your tone but you need to shut that guitarist up..he's ruining it.. Quote
TheGreek Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Love the tone on The Jackson 5 "I want you back" - the whole riff feels sooo perfect.. "I refuse" - Hue & Cry Stanley Clarke - "We supply" Virtually everything by Ozric Tentacles What Mick Karn did everytime he picked up a bass Quote

Kiwi Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 BTW, probably not a good idea to cut and paste that link anywhere, it's youtu.be, not youtube.com. Others who have clicked similar links in the past get sent to a viral place. Quote
4 Strings Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012
I was playing Alan Wake (a game before I confuse anyone) the other night and when I finished it, Bowie's Space Oddity played over the end credits. Heard it countless times before, but at the time I had headphones on and realised I'd never really paid the bass much attention. What a tone! Herbie Flowers I believe? Seem to remember mention of a fretless jazz... Isolated here but it sits so nicely in the mix, sounds different again
Fretless, flats, compression, add an octaver and it'll be Sledghammer! You're right, never listened to the bass before, much more complex than I'd expect. Quote
dan2112 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012
Not exactly 'tone' but adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood by Future Of The Left has an incredible sound! In fact, that whole album sounds great. As far as pure bass and amp tone I love pretty much everything on No Push Collide by Serafin.
Kelson's bass tone is just mad!! Have you checked out his band 'Truckers of Husk'? Green big muff...all parts precision and an Ashdown ABM...same set up as he had in FOTL. Also wait until you hear the tones on their new album....Julia sounds huge!! Quote
lowdown Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 (edited)
Session player, Russ Stableford.
Been looking at a lot of Internet stuff regarding Russ. His son and grandson have been posting on various sites. They even mention that he had three Fender basses. A trusty Jazz, a Precision and some kind of fretless Fender. Apparently he was always messing around with various strings and foam mutes to get his sound. I followed a link and ended up reading about the Bassist on a lot of Bert Kaempfert recordings called "Ladi Geisler", who also had a very similar distinctive sound. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladi_Geisler http://vimeo.com/33252744 Edited May 28, 2015 by lowdown Quote
ubit Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I love Geddys sound, but for me the single song that makes me drool at the bass sound, is "Judith "by A Perfect circle. I get quite moist when I hear it! Quote
