[/quote] Mesa Boogie Bass Prodigy, bass head, 30/120 watts class A/B - EUR1885 Mesa Boogie Bass Strategy, bass head, 60/150/300 watts class A/B - EUR2855 I balked at the aesthetic at first, then warmed a bit to their 50's vibe, although it could be a lot more subtle. What's a 'solo' control? Isn't that cheating a bit? Edited March 22, 2012 by Roland Rock
thodrik
I may be in the minority but I'm not sure I see much of a market of a 30-120 watt switchable all tube amp for slightly over £1500. An ultra nice practice amp that should 'just about' cover most gigs if you have a decent cab. I suppose they are not going to be mass produced on a huge scale anyway. 60-150-300, yes that does make a lot of sense. Prices are the usual Mesa prices, but since I saw in another thread that the rrp for a 2012 standard US Jazz is £1400, I really don't know what to think anymore in terms of how much is too much. I suppose the 300 watter is in line with the Ampeg Heritage stuff. Still, I do generally like the Mesa bass stuff, no doubt this will sound nice as well. Mark_Bass
My M-pulse 360 is lovely & loud i dont think for the average gig i've ever needed anything louder. I love Mesa, i just wish i had a enough spare cash & justifuication to buy another one. Those are some pricey-metaballs!
HazBeen
Awesome sounding gear, but too expensive and I have seen too many basic design flaws/electronic issues to justify their prices. My MPulse 600 for instance had some extremely dodgy inner wiring (bought NEW), after it was corrected it was an awesome amp... but clearly QC was not great. To be quite honest, the same holds true for Ampeg. The well known "hum" in the SVP Pro and SVT Pro's are a good example, but a least Ampegs are not hugely expensive, just expensive. I have had many full tube amps, and although I was very happy with the sound of every single one my GB STM900 gives me 95% of the tonal satisfaction with 2000% more comfort in my lower back. If you want full tube, I have long settled on Mywatt (German Hiwatt Clone), lightweight (for a full tube amp) all hand wired and cheaper that an SVT. Like WoT said above, the fact that one or two guys have made a lot of their specific problems does not give Mesa a poor reputation for QC. With Mesa amplification I've found myself stuck between needing slightly more than the hybrid gear such as the Walkabout and M-Pulse and not needing everything that the all-tube gear such as the Strategy and 400 deliver, so the new range looks promising. Mr. Foxen
Techs that have been in Mesa's aren't big on the newer ones either. Not as bad as Ampeg, but Mesa's whole 'you may only use our valves' thing puts them far behind.

FWIW, all non-US pricing is extortionate, not just the UK...

American made for domestic stuff doesn't tend to have taps even on the transformer.
Kiwi
Is that a recent change in transformer specification or speculation? Most manufacturers will put a dual voltage transformer in not only because its more convenient (and cheaper) but also because that's what musicians who tour between continents expect. Both my mesas had a 120/240v switch on the back IIRC
Beedster
I don't think either the Walkabout or M-Pulse had dual voltage. I might be wrong though
wateroftyne
Yip... the Mesa Hybrid stuff is notoriously unfriendly when it comes to voltage switching. Dunno if the valve stuff is the same.
