neilb Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Not a good bass to show me on a Sunday morning after a heavy night on the Pina Coldas!! Quote
Ed_S Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Yup.. if I was ever going to own one, it'd most likely be either a red, black or white one of those! Quote
Raggy Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012
Doesn't look as nice as the 5
+1 Quote
Musicman20 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012
Doesn't look as nice as the 5
+1....aesthetically it doesn't have the same 'wow' factor as the 5. Nice though. Quote
Gust0o Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I like it - plain yet effective. Sometimes less is more Quote
discreet Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Wow. Having played your Dingwalls GW, I'm pretty much a convert anyway, but this is really stunning. Crime. It's the only way I'm going to get hold of one. Now, which scam shall I pull..? Quote
Sheldon Dingwall Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012
Not a good bass to show me on a Sunday morning after a heavy night on the Pina Coldas!!
I've been meaning to talk to you about all those piña coladas. Quote
Sheldon Dingwall Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012
Stunning! What are the scale lengths?
32" to 34.25" Quote
skej21 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Any chance of this bass but with pearloid block inlays? That would incredible! Quote
Machines Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012
32" to 34.25"
Since the E string is near enough standard scale, what benefits does the novax system offer on a 4 string bass ? I understand the practicality on 5/6 string Dingwalls and have played a few to attest to it working well there. Quote

AndyTravis Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Played this in Frankfurt. Totally in love with Dingwall basses since I played an ABZ at Bassdayuk a couple of years ago. I have to get one of these soon. Quote
Higgie Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I absolutely LOVED the 5 string one of these I played when I was lucky enough to go into the Bass Gallery while Sheldon was in there. I'd love to give this 4 a go! Quote
Ed_S Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012
I just wish they had the protos head stock. Not a fan of the plastic plate TBH.
Completely agree! Likewise, the string tree would rapidly find itself changed for something a little more classic if I owned one.
Standard options include Vintage White with Black/White/Black pickguard... Sheldon Dingwall Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012
the satin black one on I think Bass directs website is I just wish they had the protos head stock. Not a fan of the plastic plate TBH.
I don't have a photo handy of the black plate with the new polished aluminum string tree, but let me know what you think of the look of that when you see it. Quote
More even tone from string to string makes EQing for the room or recording much easier and effective. Plus the shorter scales make it feel like some kind of sports car, they almost play themselves. Quote

Sheldon Dingwall Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012
I guess it was a cost decision due to the bit of extra work involved that made you go for the plastic one?
No, the plate is way more of a pain to make. The problem is that the engraving is too subtle. From a distance it disappears. Quote
Sheldon Dingwall Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Leaks into the wood Nd looks messy. Silk screen would work but might look cheap. Quote
