GregHughes
Afternoon, Does anyone have one of these and if so what do you reckon? Is there any better alternatives? I know the Akai one is probably better but there's no way I'm going to fork out that much on an effects pedal.
thisnameistaken
I've had three or four of them. IMO the current version is flawed and doesn't perform or sound as good as the older model, the older one is also easier to use because the sliders are longer and have a better feel to them. The old BMS is a really great pedal that makes some very useful noises, the new BMS is a bit weak by comparison.
simwells
Personally I ended up buying the Markbass Super Synth after comparing various, the BMS was fantastic at creating a couple of sounds but for me felt a bit limited, the SS is also limited due to lack of variance of waveforms but suited me better. Other units to look at would be the Korg G5 and the Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer.
Al Heeley
EHX BMS is a classic pedal - I have one of the older ones bought from another forum member - it was a trade-up from the Boss SYB-3 pedal I alos bought second hand. Easy to tune in, some useful sounds, requires a bit of time experimenting, depending on your style, the bass output and the sort of sound you are after. I have great affection for my BMS. GregHughes
Thanks all. Not sure I'm any closer to deciding. Anyone got one they want to sell?
1976fenderhead
I've just bought a MarkBass Super Synth so if I prefer it I might sell my BMS next week. I love how easy the BMS is to set up and control, but I find now I'm after a more digital sound and the BMS sounds too analog.
Higgie
I had one of the old big ones for a while, it was great, but I just didn't use it. I've also had a Deep Impact and sold it for the same reason. I guess it's worth it if you're going to get the use out of it...
GregHughes
Give us a shout if you do decide to sell your BMS as I may well be interested. At least that way I can try it out and if I don't get on with it sell on without losing much cash.
thisnameistaken
You missed one of the older models on eBay last week, went for a little over £100. I was thinking about buying it myself but I don't have room on my board for it. Still thought about buying it, hehe. I really like the old BMS it's a great unit. GregHughes
Now you tell me I must admit I've not really been looking on Ebay so I'd better keep a better eye out.
Roland Rock
I sold my older model (boxed and good nick) for £100 on BC a few weeks ago. It didn't hang around for long! It's a great pedal, very versatile, with great octave (above and below), distortion and wah type sounds. My only slight beef was that it was not true bypass. [/quote] An easily modded foible! Perhaps cheaper to just put it in a TB looper if you're not handy with a soldering iron .
GregHughes
Sounds like I should be able to pick one up for around £100 then which is much more palatable than a new one and well worth a punt as it should be pretty easy to pass on too if I don't like it. Bigwan
True bypass looper. Just a separate box with a switch...

I did it to my last one myself and my soldering iron looks Victorian.
Roland Rock
Well, it's gone now anyway, but thanks for the info. I should have enquired on BC! Perhaps this info could come in handy to OP Greg when he gets one. Actually, I'll show this thread to the guy who bought it from me too. Sweeneythebass
I've got an old BMS but I've misplaced my power adaptor. Anyone know where I can get a replacement ?
