Pow_22 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Very Quick question... Can anyone tell me if these are smooth flats as per Picattos or do they still have a reasonable 'gap' in the windings as per Roto flats? Quote
Dave Vader Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Very smooth indeed, I'd played 2 gigs with them before I spotted any gap at all. Quote
Pow_22 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 ah cheers for that. Fairly new to flats having so far tried Roto's, TI's and picatto's. The main thing i didnt like about the picattos was their complete smoothness. Have considered the status halfwounds but think i do want that full on flats tone. Roto's it is then i think Quote
Pow_22 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 the price mainly and i felt that they felt a bit 'slack' Quote
fretmeister Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I love Status half-wounds. Awesome string. Quote
lee4 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I use Status flats(on my Status).I havn't tried any other brands but I would give them a try as they are cheaper(IIRC)than Roto's. Quote
LukeFRC Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012
the price mainly and i felt that they felt a bit 'slack'
surely after you fit them you need to replace them 20 years later? Quote
ead Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Have you tried Thomastik JFs, they're not smooth in the same way Picatos are (although I quite like that and have them on a couple of basses). Quote
skelf Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I still sell SIT strings and have some flats should you need them. Quote
Pow_22 Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 How much do they go for skelf? Also are they smooth as described above or gapped like roto's? Quote
