wltchris Posted March 28, 2012 Share Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) I'm selling my Stentor Arcadia 3/4 double bass. I bought it new in autumn 2009 as a complete beginner. However this is not a student model (I have an expensive habit of buying the best thing I can afford as opposed to what I actually need), but actually one of Stentor's high end models. In fact, I think they only made one model that was of better quality. It is fully hand carved, made from quality solid tonewoods. It is a beautiful instrument. I never managed to get to a stage where I could coax anything like it's true potential out of it. I practiced for about a year and then had to stop as playing it aggravated an old Repetitive Strain Injury that had stopped me playing electric for 6 months a few years earlier. It has never been gigged, because I never got anywhere near to playing in public. I am now selling it because it has been in its case untouched for the best part of 18 months, I am never likely to go back to trying to play it, and I need the money. It is in excellent condition, with just one or two very minor scrapes on its back edge that I have tried to show with a photo, but it was difficult to get a clear picture of them. I had it set up by a very good Manchester luthier after I bought it, who said that all it really needed doing to it was a new nut, which he put in. He did say that a better bridge and better strings would improve the instrument, but that was by no means necessary, just advisable to get the best tone possible. I decided not to bother with those upgrades, so it still has the original strings and bridge. A brazilwood french style bow is included, along with a soft padded case and a very sturdy stand.
