Simon.
Holla folks, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to get in touch with Fender Japan? I have a mid-80's MIJ P-Lyte which appears to have developed a fault with its pre-amp. It’s been in semi-retirement for a few years, and although it gets use a bit as a noodling bass, generally it never gets plugged in. However, I felt the need last night and discovered a very distorted sound coming out! New batteries all round, cables tested and different amps tried, all with the same result. So, as the fault is apparent regardless of pick-up selection, volume (unless at 0, obviously) or tone, I'm suspecting something has failed in the pre-amp. I'm quite happy to spend some time fault finding on it, but would like to have a wiring diagram and schematic to hand. So, does anyone have such a thing, or know how to contact Fender Japan? The only e-mail link I could find on their website goes to a dead page... https://www.kandashokai.co.jp/fenderjapanmail/mail.php Cheers, Simon. Bigwan
Have someone who knows electronics service it or replace it with something better. I think contacting Fender over this may be a total waste of time... It's probably a fairly generic circuit. As a starting point have a look at any electrolytic capacitors on the board - if they look gunky they're probably shot and will need replacing. It's an age rather than amount of use thing. I had that problem with my Wal preamp, with similar sounding effect. Edited March 30, 2012 by Bigwan

LukeFRC
I would imagine it would be quicker and easier to fix it yourself than try to get a schematic first!
typemonster
Hi Simon, Am also looking to contact Fender Japan customer support / service center as well. However all that I could find was the same info. Trying a get an email address to send them an enquiry. Any luck with your hunt? Cheers, Mike
lojo
Yes either sort it yourself or to use the car analogy above take it to a local bass garage, fender Japan will have little interest in helping you I'd guess Good luck
rednose200
Yeah you'll struggle getting it sorted through the Fender Japan route. A good bass luthier / repairer should be able to acquire replacement or equivalent parts much cheaper
