Hobbayne Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012
What a travesty. They should have had the decency to change their name when they went all west coast AOR. Peter Green would be turning in his grave if he hadn't come back from the dead.
But Peter Green had Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan, the thread says single guitarist and L B does it all by himself. Quote
Yes, fair point. I was really just mourning the loss of the 'real' Fleetwood Mac. Quote
paulconnolly Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I was thinking of EVH too but DLR was a pretty distinctive vocalist and front man. Quote
paulconnolly Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 King Crimson and Be Bop Deluxe would figure highly on my list of bands dominated by a single guitarist. Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 (edited)
How many bands have had their sound dominated by a single guitarist in an original way, obviously Hendrix etc but how about Dr Feelgood, Wilko is a great player with style and is still going strong, he is no great singer but his guitar speaks enough !
Have to agree, but a lot of Feelgoods songs were best live and with the original lineup cos of J B Sparkes Bass lines, nothing flash, but still underrated in my humble, Not so much with Shouldnt Call the Doctor but if you watch the rest of that concert video theres some great Bass lines on it... BILL POSTERS Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Funny nobody has mentioned Keef Richards. Stuff like JJF & Midnight Rambler just wouldnt be the same done by anybody else. Quote
ahpook Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 (edited) kevin shields in my bloody valentine. if there's one thing that defines their sound, it's his bendy tremolo chordy thing. Edited March 31, 2012 by ahpook Quote
tauzero Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 World's best guitarist ever... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v7LzOeTkfM Quote
GRAHAM SG1 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Good replies, I think what I was saying was that Wilko`s guitar set the style and sound of the band in a unique way, you could not have Dr Feelgood without him, they did exist for a while but not the same sound, his guitar almost jumps out at you and is the first thing I hear ! I agree about Hank Marvin too ! Quote
rOB Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012
Tom Morello.
Good shout. The band would be totally different without his distinct noise-mongering. Quote
KevB Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Rainbow. Actually Blackmore in Purple too, other guitarists have come into the band but they all had their own styles so none of them sound any way similar. Quote
risingson Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Big +1 on Johnny Marr, but the one that very obviously stands out from the U.K is Brian May, he went quite some way to defining Queen's sound. A bit more recently in the U.K Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead and and Graham Coxon from Blur. Quote
Gust0o Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012
the fella from the smiths...
Johnny Marr? Quote
amnesia Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Dimebag Darrell - Pantera. Maybe even more so since he was shot. Mark Tremonti - Alter Bridge Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012
Johnny Marr?
