HEADPHONE AMP/PRACTICE AMP ADVISE.

Anyone recomend a good practice tool...?
I need to be able to practice without creating noise, i'd like the facility to listen to an mp3 player through the devise also... is the iphone thingy any good?

It's been a long while since I bought a practice amp so I can't comment on that, but I've tried Pocket Rock-It headphone amps and wasn't overly impressed. VERY bulky and the sound wasn't all that great.

Never tried a Vox Amplug, I hear they're a bit nicer.

I use a Pod UX2 which is connected to my laptop (running XP). This has plenty of guitar and bass amp simulations plus an array of effects. I can just noodle through headphones or play a cd on the laptop and play along. I am not sure how much they are now, I got mine for £130. I also use this for recording with Cubase recording software. The beauty of this is that the Pod weighs next to nothing.
If you specifically want an amp, what about one of those little Roland Cubes? i'm sure they have an headphone socket.

I use a Tascam MP-BT1. Load on your MP3's, plug in your headphones and bass and play along without disturbing the cat.

Great for learning bass lines too with the ability to "loop" sections of a song. You can also slow down a song without it affecting the key. Has the ability to "remove" the bass from the song to so you can "mix" in your bas at the right level and has built in FX.

The Rock-it is hissy. I lost mine down the back of the sofa and can't be arsed retrieving it.

I now have a Vox, and it's very useful along with an mp3 player.

I use my iPhone with an irig and a selection of apps, ampkit, amplitube, garage band (can't work it for the life of me though) and robick for playing back tracks/altering their key/tone/pitch/tempo etc

I can vouch for the Vox Amplug - clip it in, run your iPhone headphones as well, and rock out. Great for simple, no fuss playing when volume isn't an option.

That micro-h looks spot on to me! I've just ordered one as the whole 'learning a new song from mp3' thing has been a pain in the arse for a while now (ever since I sold my Bass Buddy actually!)

The PJB bass buddy is superb too, and v handy as a preamp, my Genz head replaced the preamp requirement but not the ability to blend an mp3 into the headphones too...

I've done what you want with a Pocket Pod with headphones, now I am using a Yamaha thr-10, which is bedroom volume (and can be used with headphones as well). Both can be used as guitar amp simulators too, and both have line ins to play along mp3s

+1 if you need it portable.

If you have a computer & soundcard I also recommend GDT (http://renegademinds.com/Default.aspx?tabid=65) which I use for most of my song learning. (In combination with Tux guitar)
