ezbass
OK here's my 'problem' I've recently acquired the budget version of the Ibanez Gary Willis GWB35 which comes with a generic Ibby pick up and preamp. The preamp is 2 band and voiced at 30Hz in the bass and 10khz in the treble. I'm tempted to replace the preamp with an Aguilar obp2 which is voiced at 40Hz and 6.5khz respectively . Do you think I will benefit significantly from the upgrade given the frequencies involved and the nature of the pick up? Over to you..... LukeFRC
yes. but I think you should test it yourself, try feeding your bass into garageband or similar and then you can play with parametric eq's and try lots of different Eq points. Personally I prefer 40Hz to 30Hz.
Ou7shined
Most preamps colour the tone to some extent even when set perfectly flat. I've only used the OBP-3s form Aguilar but I find them most agreable flat and love the boost/cut points. I have never directly compared them with any Ibby pre's but I think you will be happy with the change.
BigRedX
I'd look at the single pickup version of the ACG EQ02 Filter Pre-amp. Can't be beaten fro fretless bass IMO.
skelf
I know there is a guy on talkbass that installed a 02 preamp on a Willis bass. If you search acg Willis I am sure you will find him.
