Fleabay85
I'm not a rickenbacker expert and I received this bass 1 week ago. The prev owner said this bass was born as a 4000 modell and in the 80's it was modiefied to 4001 or 4003 electronic. The serial is PL6737. lojo
Did you buy to sell? Or why shift it one week later? Hope you don't mind me asking
Fleabay85
I play modern music with lot of slap...and this rickenbacker is not the best for this music. The neck is straight the frets are in good condition Edited April 7, 2012 by Fleabay85
hairyhaw
The fretboard doesn't look original to the bass. It may have been modified I suppose. Did the previous owner say exactly what work was done to the bass aside from putting the neck pickup and electrics in?
Fleabay85
I don't know exactly...Maybe the fretboard had dot inlays in the past?
GregBass
Hi there Do you have a photo of the back of the bass too please?
geofio
sorry thats not a rickenbacker bass , it is a a copy bass. i have been collecting rics for 38 years , that bass is all wrong.
hairyhaw
I don't know exactly...Maybe the fretboard had dot inlays in the past?
That would help to explain the lack of laquer on the fretboard. It's weird that the neck is bound too (and possibly been re-fretted?) - you never see that on a 4000. To go to that amount of work on the neck, then leave the body wings unbound.... Not having a go BTW - Its just its had some interesting mods done to it. hairyhaw
sorry thats not a rickenbacker bass , it is a a copy bass. i have been collecting rics for 38 years , that bass is all wrong.
I'd kind of been thinking the same. Funnily enough I couldn't find anything wrong at the body end - it was the fretboard and tuning pegs that started the alarm bells ringing. geofio
i dont think this is a genuine rick, i have been a collector of rics for 3o odd years, the wings are unequal you wont find that on a ric, the hardware isnt right, the headstock shape is wrong also the left curve on the headstock is wrong , the serial number is a 1976 rickenbacker the body contours dont look right , sorry i would return that to the seller. geofio
if you look at the bass the left wing is higher that the right wing , it just wouldnt happen on a genuine rick, it just isnt right.
CBbass
Curious to see how this turns out.
ash
Agreed its a fake, the headstock and tuners look like an Ibanez or CMI. The body is all wrong, have you checked the trussrod? Most faker's have one - not all - but this is generally the case, the Ibanez models certainly have one TR whereas real Rick's have two. I'd return it. Sorry. Fleabay85
I checked now...you are right..there is only one truss rod.
karlfer
I've seen those fretboards before. Will do the research, but dim and distant memory is screaming Gianni at me. Well done FleaBay85 for taking the comments in such a positive way. Just really good you will be able to return . Stag
Headstock isnt right and the skunk stripe doesnt match up. Also no binding (or any markings from a refin over it) so its a fakey job. Sure its probably a nice player but id get ya money back fella.
Mr. Foxen
I've seen one like this before, it was a Maya or El Maya. Really nice instrument. Don't ump it jsut because its a fake, but negotiate a more appropriate price.
Fleabay85
I'll trade it back.I gave my aguilar amp for it...

Mr. Foxen
Well, if dude wants an honest sell, send him here. The Maya I had hands on that looked like this was pretty ahead of any RIC made instruments I've had my hands on.
