following a discussion at a recent audition just wondering how many bass players started out exclusively on bass and how many migrated across later

my prediction for most popular choice is 6 string starter then on to bass :)

I ended up on bass via the tried and trusted route of being a brass player first (McCartney, Entwistle, Flea, ahem, me) then trying guitar then realising that no bands in my area had a bassist and it would be straight-through to fame and fortune if I started the four string wonder.

Bass. Then triangle. Came back to bass when it became apparent the triangle circle was just too cliquey.

Want five different answers? Ask three triange players!

All they would talk about is, is this good for metal? For f***'s sake.

I always found triangle players a bit square to be honest

Tin whistles, low whistles, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, [s]keyboards[/s], keyboard demolition, mandolin, [s]banjo[/s], taste readjustment therapy, and now trying violin in the hope that the notes are easier to find second time round... <_<

Piano as a young child, bit I always wished it was guitar instead.

fast forward to secondary school and I started to get more into music. I settled on bass as the instrument for me. So my folks made me learn guitar first.
