steve-bbb
following a discussion at a recent audition just wondering how many bass players started out exclusively on bass and how many migrated across later my prediction for most popular choice is 6 string starter then on to bass
leftybassman392
I thought this was going to be a 'life, the universe and everything' kind of thread. What a gip! Still voted though.
RhysP
Bass was my first instrument - didn't start dabbling on guitar until a lot later on.

scalpy
I ended up on bass via the tried and trusted route of being a brass player first (McCartney, Entwistle, Flea, ahem, me) then trying guitar then realising that no bands in my area had a bassist and it would be straight-through to fame and fortune if I started the four string wonder. Ask three triange players! All they would talk about is, is this good for metal? For f***'s sake.

clauster
Piano as a young child, bit I always wished it was guitar instead. fast forward to secondary school and I started to get more into music. I settled on bass as the instrument for me. So my folks made me learn guitar first.
