Who's Who Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Paul Weller fan and love the track The Changingman. But I never realised the intro was taken from a track by Electric Light Orchestra. Our drummer ecently leant me The Best of E.L.O, a band I don't know too much about. But as soon as I heard the intro to '10538 Overture' I couldn't believe it I'd never heard it before. It's a wicked track and clearly influenced Weller in a massive way when he used the intro on The Changingman. Just in case anyone was in the dark like me, for your listening pleasure: http://youtu.be/PC02EnshI5U Quote
MB1 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 MB1. He also uses the beginning of reflections Diana Ross and the Supremes. Quote
discreet Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Interesting... ELO always remind me of Magical Mystery Tour-era Beatles, for some reason... Quote
wateroftyne Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 See also White Room / Tales Of Great Ulysees by Cream, and a load of other songs. It's quite a common progression... Quote
skankdelvar Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 See also: Dear Prudence by The Beatles. Willing to bet that both Weller and Jeff Lynne have a copy of that somewher in the attic. Quote
Monckyman Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 It`s been well documented that Jeff Lynn wanted to recreate the orchestral tone and structure of Magical Mystery tour era Beatles compositions. No suprise that others have pillaged the pillager. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Lynne_and_The_Beatles Quote
