Jayben
Alright guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with the fretboard on my VM Jazz - it has stained a nasty green colour around frets 3-5 on the upper 3 strings. Now I know I'm a sweaty mucker, and so should have been more diligent with my cleaning of the f/b and strings. Has anyone had similar problems with their maple necks? And what do people use to clean their f/b's safely? A bit of research suggests that EB WonderWipes will do the trick, while lemon oil (which I use for my rosewood f/bs) can damage maple. What say you, BassChat?
icastle
If you have a maple fingerboard then stay away from any oil based cleaning products - it's like cleaning your car windows with cooking oil otherwise. On the odd occasion that I've had maple necks I've just used a bit of meths on a rag and never had a problem - all you're doing is cleaning 'gunk' off of a sealed surface. Jayben
The sepcs over on the Fender website tells me that the neck has a polyurethane finish, so it's literally a case of cleaning meths and a rag?
icastle
Yep. That's all I've ever used on maple fingerboards. Meths is safe on polyurethane (it doesn't soften or strip it).
