thebuckets Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 ned anew amp set up and I'm thinking of blowing most of my budget on a nice amp maybe a s/h markbass either a little mark iii or lm250 trouble is that will leave me precious little for cabs. cant afford MB cabs would the harly benton 2x10s at thomman do it justice for now or am i wasting my time? would i need a 4x10 for a largish pub or will the markbass and a single 2x10 cut the mustard. having trouble deciding you know what they say 'never give an idiot a choice' thanks guys and girls Quote
chrismuzz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I actually like the sound of Markbass heads through cheaper cabs. Ashdown are nice and warm Not as efficient as the matching cabs though, so I personally would go for something bigger than a 2x10 Quote
dannybuoy Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) There seems to be lots of cheap Gallien Krueger stuff being banged out through Soundslive and Thomann among other places, might be worth checking those out! andyonbass Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Dunno if this is still available, but BFM cabs sound great with MB heads. Great price too. Quote
Grubbs Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/173043-ashdown-mag-300-bass-amp/page__fromsearch__1 interested? thanks Quote
chrismuzz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 ^^^ Markbass F1 + SansAmp through one of those bad boys sounds awesome, and much lighter than an Ampeg rig ^^^ Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I tend to advise spending more on the cab, and cheaper on the amp. no-one takes the advice but it has good basis. Loads of amps at various levels are pretty much same components, same doesn't apply to cabs. Quote

However the GK offerings are brilliant too if you can stretch the old cash margin! Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Fender Rumble 410, 500 watts at 4 ohms, £255 http://www.scayles.c...ils.php?ID=ODQ2 Edited April 13, 2012 by Lozz196 Quote

Lozz196 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Well either scenario is good, it depends on your needs. I personally prefer to have only one cab, less to shift about/set-up etc, so if the amp puts out 500 watts at 4 ohms, try to get cabs that are 4 ohms, that will handle this power. Although I`ve had stacks, in reality I`m yet to play a gig where a 410 (or my current 210/112 combined cab) isn`t enough. And Markbass are powerful amps, so I doubt you will ever be pushing the volume anywhere near full, through a 4 ohm 410. Again, my preference is to have the full power avialable from the amp, so I don`t have to push it too hard. Footnote - from what I`ve read, the Fender Rumble cabs are quite an old-school sound, although they do have a tweeter, so if you need crisp hi-fi`s, this may not be the right cab. But, that`s only what I`ve read from reviews of thr 112 cabs in this range. Edited April 13, 2012 by Lozz196 Quote
TG Flatline Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 The BFM Jack 2x10 that has been linked further up would be a good idea and certainly my suggestion. Also, listen to what Mr Foxen says as he is speaking truth! Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 It`s a very good point. And considering my cab would be twice as much as my amp new, advice I seem to have taken Quote
JTUK Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Out of the two I am not sure which I'd dumb down. so I'll go with neither, I'm afraid, as one weak point in the chain cannot be rescued IME. There are some amps to avoid and and as many cabs as well, IMO. Save your money and buy well..not twice..!! Quote
