Twigman
I am looking for a wide ( 3"+) , padded leather strap for my bass (what else would it be for?) There seem to be few out there and what there is is frighteningly expensive ( £80 seems like a lot of dosh).... I normally use a 2" nylon thing but find that after a couple of hours on stage it can cut into my shoulder..... so I thought a wider strap would be a good idea. I am not going to fork out £80 on an unknown quantity. What do you recommend?
Clarky
These are excellent - Minotaur from Greece - about £30-40 and arrived within a few days. Top quality and able to deal with heavy basses (I have a dodgy shoulder and back) http://minotaur.gr/catalog/index.php?cPath=28&osCsid=kea90j8ah0o229867kdh25ar02
bassmanady
I use the Fender leather strap 3.1/4" wide,i think it was about £55..i find it really comfortable, with my Yammy which weighs 10lbs
Ben Jamin
Does it have to be leather? These are really good: http://www.monocase.com/mono-gs1-betty.asp
bigjohn
I've had a Stones GL5 since I was 18. It's the only leather strap I've owned and It's never crossed my mind to buy another type. I've used it and abused it, it's still good as new, if not better. It's a leather strap, so durable, but also gives like a nylon strap because of the linking system, so doesn't need to be padded. Jimmy Page uses 'em for those weigh a ton Les Pauls he plays. They are back in production and can be found for about £40. Gareth Hughes
I'm loving these straps, recommend on here by Bigwan: http://italiastraps.com/guitar-straps-uk.html I had a few Comfort Straps before and to me these Italia ones do a better job of distributing the weight and making your bass seem lighter. The shipping costs are the same as they are within the US and I didn't get hit for any import duties so it's all good.

Been using the 'used look' vintage-style one for ages and it makes my Precision seem very light indeed. And we regularly play 2 X 1 hour sets.
I've got the 145cm option, and having measured it, I'd say it would go 110-145cm (approx) and currently have it adjusted to around 125cm. There are two strap button holes at the bottom end of the strap around 13cm apart for a quick change if necessary, but will also adjust in 3cm increments, so you should be able to get close to what you want. Or am I just a prejudiced bellybuttonist bigot?
I used to have an 'inny' which after astonishing weight gain became an 'outy', then after surgery became an 'inny' again. So having been on both sides of the fence (so to speak) I have to say I prefer to have an 'inny'. It's more comfortable, but you do have to be vigilant about lint, fluff and other contaminants. Gust0o
Twig, if you search, I started a thread on the same topic about a month ago - some excellent suggestions in there, also; some of which are repeated here, but it might give you more opinions to think about. Krysbass
A company called "Leathergraft" make a 4" wide bass strap. It's padded and has suede on the underside - very comfortable but best of all; it only costs around £22. www.gamlinsmusic.co.uk are stockists. I've had mine for about 4 years and it's still holding together well. No point in spending more than you have to
