steantval Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 The whole evening devoted to USA Southern Rock, including features of one of my all time favourite bands The Allman Brothers. Looking forward to an evening of quality musicianship. Quote
Muzz Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Wow, thanks for the heads-up, that's all gone straight on the recorder. Never seen the whole of that Skynyrd OGWT. Can't wait. Quote
flyfisher Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Thanks for that. I don't watch much telly these days but I've booked a place on the sofa tonight. Looking forward to seeing the Marshall Tucker Band. I seem to have missed them first time around but someone here (Burritobass?) mentioned them a while back and I've been enjoying catching up. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Missed half of first programme. Will probably watch over weekend. However, I'm watching a compilation of various acts. Very hit and miss. More miss tbh. Is that Justin lee Collins in a white suit?? Jim Dandy ( Dave Lee Roth ripped him off somewhat) Rambling man??. Something your grandad would play when he comes home from the pub.awful country stuff. Where's the rock? Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Charlie Saniels is a bit mean tho'.wouldnt upset him Quote

chris_b Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I'm recording. Will be watching during the week. Quote
flyfisher Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Hmm. Not as good as I was hoping, but I got through it all by dozing off a few times on the sofa. The thing that really struck home though (I don't know why, since it's not exactly news) is how much has changed in just 50 years and the dreadful social situation in the southern states in my own lifetime. A sober reminder indeed. Quote
clarkpegasus4001 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I watched it because i'm a fan of Stillwater. I'm not so struck on the first album but, I Reserve The Right is mega. Quote
gary mac Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Think I enjoyed it but had more than enough of widdlywiddlysiddly guitar solos by the time I went to bed. Could have been worse though at least no drum solos Quote
Jazzneck Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012
Pesky gone and missed it !
iPlayer? Quote
thodrik Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I saw some bits when I got in late. ZZ Top and Johnny Winter are great. Cher and Gregg Allmann were not so much to my tastes. Quote
discreet Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Practically Southern Rocked myself into a coma. Wet Willie were pretty funky, though. Seemed to be a preponderance of Les Pauls and Fender Ps, y'all... With the exception of the Allman Brothers Band, didn't feel too inspired by any of it, tbh... another time, another place. Quote

spongebob Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Quite enjoyed a bit of the Lynyrd Skynyrd gig....managed to avoid Freebird as well! Quote

Here they are playing Central City Park in Macon in 1973. Apologies for dodgy sound quality: Can't help feeling they would have been much more successful had they been called something else! But I did get strong feelings of nostagia. Every song sounded the same. Quote
