KiOgon
Hard to tell from my armchair, it's one of those things you need to get your hands on to determine really. Is it a seller you trust Cheerz, John

lettsguitars
If it's an old single action rod with an anchor it is a big problem. If the rod is a modern dual action that doesn't need anchoring then it could just be that the rod needs tightening up. You could find out from the manufacturer which type you are looking at. rumour6
Try asking if he's ever moved it; i.e. did it ever work... it could just be the threaded Allen key end has come off and may 'catch' again; if it's stripped it's reasonably major, like KiOgon says getting hands on would tell you in a minute. If it's too far away to try and you don't have a friendly tech I'd leave alone.
