TPJ
Oh and side by side you wouldn't believe the 600 has twice the power of the 300, the latter really holds its own
+1 I use the Mesa WA for both double bass in it's combo format and the head with 2 Aggie GS112s for electric. Never seems to be working too hard at loud volumes and the flexible eq is indespensible for dialing in the double bass tone and getting rid of feedback frequencies.. Musicman20
I've still as yet not heard one of these (when I've known about it) or even seen one in the flesh. I'd still like to try the combo one day. My only issue with Mesa is their price structuring in the UK is insane. I suppose if you get an amp with amazing tone and build, you get what you pay for! Never again - I just can't afford to take that kind of hit. As for the Walkabout... believe everything you hear. They're that good. I'm even willing to put up with a lack of a mute and speakons, and the insane post-everything DI.

dannybuoy
WoT, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Steamliner vs Walkabout!
wateroftyne
WoT, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Steamliner vs Walkabout!
Hmm.. there's a (possibly controversial) answer to this... My basses and cabs have been pretty static over the years. The transient factor for me has always been amps. I've been through quite a lot. For years I used Acoustic Image, TC and Streamliner. They were fine amps. BUT.. whenever I did a gig with backline provided, they were invariably amps with a big lump of iron in them, and they had *something*- authority, richness, response, whatever - that the lightweights I've used didn't have. I'd come away from the gig wondering what I was missing. The Streamliner was the best of the bunch by far (the TC is the polar opposite to what I want from an amp. I hated it.) but I still wasn't happy, I always missed the Walkabout, so I went for another. The first night I used it, SHAZAM! It immediately filled the hole. It's so alive, clear and... responsive. I'm now wondering if there's something about the ICEPower module they all use that just doesn't sit right with me. Who knows?

wateroftyne
Ooooh... I now have an Odyssey bag for it which fits like a glove. Sean
'Home' is the right word, Chris. I've just listened to a recording from a gig this weekend, and the tone is absolutely on-the-button - everything I've been looking for over the years. These amps do mids like no other.
I love mine so much through the Bergs that it gets more use than the M6 Carbine. I agree with the "home" reference too; I've had mine about 2 years and it's probably the best bit of kit I've got, so easy to get the right sound out of. I also love it in Scout combo mode. I'm curious to try it when in combo mode with an SFX micro-thumpinator too. Anyone done this?
wateroftyne
Here's a tune from my gig last night - it's the Walkabout DI through the PA. I love the DI on this thing...
