eude
A deposit has been paid to a gentleman in the Moffat area. Details to follow. I knew that taking Mrs ead to the MBB was an inspired idea
Ooooh, spill spill spill...
ead
Steady, steady. Just sorting out the spec as I was given certain budgetary restrictions, however Alan has been incredibly helpful. I'll share soon!
ead
OK spec. finalised. I took some inspiration from sk8's ACG bass and, always mindful of GreeneKing's comments on that very same thread, here's my spec.: Body: Wenge top on Alder Neck: 3-piece Maple with Maple board, 34" scale fretted Black hardware PB single split coil p/up ACG EQ02 3k The body was one that Alan had available:

eude
Nice spec, how many strings?!....
ead
Four strings are quite sufficient for me unless I'm playing my 5-string air bass, but that can be a bit tricky due to the added complexity

Got a real soft spot for a bit of Wenge myself I've got 4, 5 and 6 string ACGs, but I'm best at on my air 3 string bass

Myke
The first bass is gorgeous but this second is also lovely looking!
ead
A progress pic. with the maple neck that is looking rather pleasant. Starting to see what the bass will look like and I'm really happy with the wood combinations. I am talking to Alan about changing the p/up spec to a two p/up setup. Either P/J or P/H; any body have any views on this as in all honesty I've never played a P/H bass. It seems to me that in P/H mode the EQ02 would offer some considerable variety with either p/up soloed as well as blended. eude
Very nice mate! Loving the contrast between the neck and body there. A 2 pickup set up would give you a lot more options, and I think the PB pickup at the front and a thinner pickup at the rear looks really cool on the Finn body >> The PB pickups apparently have a huge amount of low end available, especially with a filter preamp, so whatever you choose will afford a pretty nice contrast. In my experience, the SB pickups have a more aggressive open tone to them, and the FB pickups, a bit more focused and smoother, but still very punchy, if you have the FB wired in series it'll be darker and more low mid focused, and in parallel it'll be a but more hifi in tone. I guess it all depends what you want from it really, based on what I just wrote I'd struggle to choose, but I hope it's of some help to you... ead
Cheers Eude that was most helpful. Are the SBs relatively quiet for single coils do you know?
eude
A good test for me is our house, the previous owner bodged pretty much everything throughout his stay here, and I'm going to have to replace all the electrics, they just aren't safe. Anyway, there's only a couple of sockets, which I've tried that cause a bit of hum when one of the SBs is soloed on my 6 string, sockets that can make our hifi hum like crazy, so I guess they are not bad at all. So in summary, they're the quietest I've had, but they're always going to be a little susceptible to hum if there's weird lighting or earthing issues around, but in a good situation, they're silent. I think a PB SB combo would be pretty cool, it'd give you a nice PJ feel Eude
ead
Yes I drifting towards that atm. Will have a further conflab with Alan before I decide I think.

ead
Just got back from Moffat discussing #3 and also a change in the electronics for the Finn bass. Instead of the ACG EQ02 Alan is going to put one of the new ACG SEQ active systems in. Looking forward to this bass being finished in the not too distant future. Mr C was as always very helpful and provided plenty of advice and guidance. I'll share the spec shortly.
