sykilz
Thanks for posting this, such a good man to listen to,obviously very intelligent and talented, but also down to earth, love the bit near the end of part 2 where he talks about not really wanting to play the keyboards live `cos the bass is" his man!!!". Lozz196
Very interesting, but that bass tone - sounded like a guitar to me - Geddy, get some BASS from your amp. i should point out here, I think he is a fantastic player, but just couldn`t stand the tone on that clip. JTUK
The recent TV show on Sky Arts had a decent bass tone...and considering the limitations of 3 piece, worked pretty well. Technique-wise..pretty limited altho it works for him as he is the band writer as well..so it has to fit. If that is your style/techique outside of that gig, then you are going to find a lot of stuff pretty hard to cover.

He hasn't always played in that style - that flamenco/strumming thing he does didn't really start until the 90's. visog
Listen to his tone on this... monster! Lozz196
Awesome. Would be willing to bet those strings are being played quite (very) hard, and that there is a fair bit of fret-buzz in amongst all that. What a sound though, killer!

Mr Fudge
Scroll down and you will find the new Rush single Headlong Flight http://www.rushisaband.com/ the bass tone is a bit leaner than usual, but sansamp or whatever other stuff 99% of Ged's tone is where every bass players should be ... in his/her fingers .... hit the strings hard and that is what you get ... simple Edited April 18, 2012 by Mr Fudge
andydye
Really nice to hear him talk about the evolution of his sound, seems like a pretty nice guy (but then, he is a bassplayer after all!). The clanky / 'lacking bottom' sound of his bass may be more to do with the microphone on the video camera than with his lack of bottom end? I may not appreciate his current flamenco technique but I can't deny his history of amazing bass work, it was the bass parts on presto that first drew me to Rush as I'd only heard 'spirit of radio' before then, superb playing! dave_bass5
Not only great bass playing but he also manages to sing whilst playing it. I thought the tone and playing was a bit lacking in the video clip but thats to be expected i guess. I got the impression he was a bit lost for what to play.
