ojplaysbass
hi all - just wondering how many (if any) of you use an e-reader or similar device during gigs instead of carrying books around. i've been using one with a 6" screen to practice with in the house and its fine, but if anyone has any experience with one in a live situation i'd love to hear opinions (my main concerns are lighting, screen timeout and use with PDFs that aren't the best quality) cheers James
JakeBrownBass
This is what i use my iPad for. Expensive yes, but well worth it IMO.
ojplaysbass
do you think a 6" screen would be pushing it? is it an easy read on your ipad? can it handle pdfs? sorry about the heavy questioning
JakeBrownBass
I use this app & it handles pdf's great. http://www.forscoreapp.com/ You can also get a foot pedal to change pages.

[/quote] i do the same, and also use the http://www.irealb.com/ app - you can also get holders for the ipad that attach to mic stand bases, although i just use a normal music stand. ojplaysbass
can you use the forscore app if you aren't connected to the internet (3g or wireless)?

ojplaysbass
cool - just checking its not one of those apps you have to be connected to an online storage facility/cloud type thing to be able to really access - can you tell i'm not really up on the jargon? lol
jakenewmanbass
I regularly use my iphone with ireal book (in fact I used it on a gig last night)
chardbass
+1 for iPad with Forscore. I use it with a clamp that goes on a mic stand and the air turn pedal. I wouldn't buy one for the sole purpose of using it as a PDF reader- a bit pricey for that :-)
JTUK
We use an I-pad for lyrics for vox..haven't bothered anywhere else. I guess it depends how big the screen is and how good your eyes are, but the look if waaaay better than a music stand...esp for main Vox. We thought about burying it in a monitor box so to be almost invisable but have just made up a stand for it at foot level.. and that is working ok
ojplaysbass
nice one guys - thanks for all the help! after a bit of looking around i think i'm going to go for a Kobo touch - not as versatile as the ipad i'll admit, but seeing as i want it just to experiment with PDFs on some gigs i think it'll probably do for the moment (the price point helps a fair bit as well). thanks again James
Mog
Our guitarist uses a Toshiba pad thingy. Got it when his ipad went tits up. He rates it above the ipad too. I'll try and get the model number tomorrow and post it here. Alternatively there's something like this http://touch.adverts.ie/guitar-accessories/i-tab-electronic-tab-reader/810427 Edited April 21, 2012 by Mog
