I got a reply back from them. Not very much info was given, I had asked for specs, run numbers, variations etc......

Apparently mine is an early model (score ;) )

I got sent the same catalogue sheet as posted here, and that was all. Here is the Email:

Hi

The model is an early version of the bassmaster funk…..the logos changed as time went on.

I have attached the basic spec for you.

Interesting catalogue scan. I picked up a Tanglewood MM copy yesterday (or rather my dad did) from a car boot sale.

Came with pretty good gig bag and Boss TU-80 tuner. Haven't had time to do anything with it yet, but it seems fairly solid. Missing the scratchplate, though.

Pics to follow ASAP...

After playing for quite some time, including three gigs, I am really quite happy with the bass. The tone is excellent, the sort of modern vaguely funky sound I was looking for. I only have really two little problems with it:

the E string sounds less loud and defined than the others, especially in the upper half of the first octave. Not a problem, as it is relatively subtle, but i'd like to get it sorted. Duff strings?

What are is the battery for? There is no active eq, is there a preamp in there with fixed settings? I couldn't see one..
magnetic pickups are inherently passive transducers, perhaps the battery powers a fixed active eq? Or an active buffer? I'm not about to dismantle and check, so i'll live in doubt :)

I was sort of leaning that way, the pickup volume stays nice and constant no matter what you do with the pickups. The output is also relatively low, so I tended to discard the fixed eq preamp on that basis.

Just got it back from the tech. The battery in the pickups is simply used to increase magnetisation of the pickups, so no fixed eq or anything.

Raised the pickups, set the action right, and boy does he sing now! Even better than before. Much clearer highs and high mid, very good definition. Can't wait to take it to band practice tonight!

Bought one of these off gumtree a few weeks ago. Similar to the OP one, but different pickups, recessed bridge, 'T' and 'bassmaster funk' on the headstock. Battered, broken nut and action like an archer would be accustomed to, but it was bought cheap as a project. Looking forward to getting new strings on it and checking it out properly!

Wow - looks great! Afraid mine'll be getting a quick fret job, setup and new strings and that'll have to do it!

I'll try to get you that wiring diagram today or tomorrow.

Hey there, I got one with the 'T' and 'BASSMASTER FUNK' written on the headstock. Still call it my 'new bass' because the band split when I'd only done 2 gigs with her! Then in 2006 I worked on a t.v. show with Sting and he signed the back of it for me (I brought it with me that day because I knew I'd get to meet him). His guitar tech is a pal of mine the last 2 years and when he saw it, man you wanna here the stories! Love that guitar, great sound out of her, like the low keys of a piano!

(I've paid my marketplace dues, so I think it's ok to say this)

I'm thinking of selling mine, unfortunately. There is nothing wrong with it, I'm just finding myself playing it less and less these days.

I'll post a proper "for sale" ad once i've taken pictures etc

and now I have this one! (I think)

I bought it a couple of months ago and vaguely remember the guy saying that it used to be painted (Back to original state now) and that there was a thread on Basschat about it. Will post pictures later.

Reassuring to see the neck joint sitting proud here too as I couldn't get it to sit flush. Lovely little bass for very little money!

Hi. Still alive and still have the bass. Just not playing much bass these days, so not a frequent visitor. I’ve not experienced this issue tbh. I believe there’s something that will loosen them (the name plusgas sounds familiar?!) possible WD40 used sparingly maybe? It’s an odd one for sure!

This ISN'T a Spector? Stunt double then.

Made by the same factory in the Czech Republic who were originally contracted by Spector to make their CR basses.
