Golchen
My sons pal bought a DIY bass from guitar-kits.co.uk, and asked me to put it together for him. It's all done except the wiring. He has no wiring sheet and claims he wasn't sent one. I emailed the company asking for a pdf, or just a bit of email info (basically which of the 5 wires from the humbucker pup is which), but they have not replied over 5 days. The website claims to respond in 24-48hrs! Long shot, but I was wondering if anyone here has made one? This is the model in question: http://www.guitar-kits.co.uk/products/bass-guitar-kits/m-s-style-bass-guitar/ I have a plan for the rest (thanks seymour duncan!), but I just need to know which colour wire is which on the pup!?!?!? obbm
If written info is not forthcoming then use a multimeter to identify the wires for each coil. This should sort out 4 of the 5 wires therefore the fifth is probably an earth. Confirm with the meter. Next step is to connect one pair to a cable and plug it into an amp. Tap the pole pieces with a screwdriver to ascertain which row of pole pieces that coil is under. Logically the other pair is the other row. If you don't have meter then I recommmend getting one. Al Heeley
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=color_codes Did you check this guide also from SD? The most common wiring for no-name pickups is red and white joined together, green and bare to earth, black is live, as per standard SD colour codes.
