So what now?

My trace combo started making a farting sound recently, so i diagnosed the problem to a tear in the surround. So im not too sure what to do now. Should i contact trace about a replacement even though its about 15 years old, or get a new driver, in which case, what am i looking for? Any help is appreciated.

Copydex is a rubber based adhesive - more flexible than PVA.

You cut (or tear) a piece of tissue paper to fit over the split and use Copydex to glue it into place.
Put a couple of layers of Copydex and tissue on both sides of the cone and you get a flexible rubber 'patch' which'll seal off the split and stop the farting. :)

Crack it open! Have a look at the driver - Odds on it's a Celestion unit. Many Trace cabs/combos sport such drivers.
Have a dig around the 'net/enquire at Trace Elliot to find out exactly what was used, and see if either Trace (or more likely) Celestion can source you a replacement.

Alternatively, scour the 'net for similar combos with knackered amp stages, and see if you can get a new driver that way?

Just some ideas...
