bremen
I seen a documentary years ago about UB40 and their famous folk playing dad and they said if we ever sing love songs , then we have sold out, we wont do that, we are for the people. A couple of years later , thats all they sang!!!! I really like their early stuff, but they came out with sh*te later!
To be fair to them though, the reason for the name Labour of Love was: they recorded covers of songs they loved so that the writers, ripped off by producers (hello Scratch!) and record companies, got some decent royalties when their songs became hits in the UK. In effect providing pensions for songwriters who were hitherto living in poverty. I always found UB40 blander than school custard, but their hearts were always in the right place. Roland Rock
Here's one a bit different. It's Leicester based By The Rivers. It takes a minute or so to get to the main song. Really great stuff, and they're so young! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nbK0V-0U18

Roland Rock
I'm not usually into dancehall stuff, but this one is particularly good. I love the space between instruments, that lovely picked guitar part, and the bassline, which compliments the vocal rhythm particularly well, yet gives plenty of space. Just the root and five. Lovely. http://youtu.be/eJVfPU87hws Edited January 9, 2014 by Roland Rock

Roland Rock
RIP John Holt. Maybe not my favourite artist, but undeniably a serious force in the genre, and king of the Reggae cover version. We played the One Love festival this year, and stuck around to see his headline slot, where he collapsed onstage :-( http://youtu.be/QYh_Kgk2voo
