AndyBob09 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsqh9jHkHlM&feature=youtu.be Hmmmm ... Starting to sound 'samey' - Very much like their other covers? Quote
robdowall Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 its amazing what you can do with "Protools"..... This band is so hit or miss with me. my fav aspects are always the keys. I dont get along with anything else. Thats just my 2 cents though. Quote
BottomE Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Samey but better than Status Quo samey. I wonder what they would be like live? Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Oh dear. Every track they cover sounds the same. I'm not impressed by jazzy noodling. Quote
pete.young Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 The vocal track is even more unpleasant than Adele's. That takes some doing. Quote
toneknob Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Like before - they're great musicians but I don't like their music. Quote
OliverBlackman Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 its got some great moments although the bass solo doesn't do a lot for me. Not saying its not good but i wasn't particularly overwhelmed by it. The stabs and some of the keys playing is amazing! The guys got a great voice too, i think they've been hyped so much people expect the impossible from them. Quote
Pete Academy Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Again an amazing take on a pop cover. The bassist is fast becoming a new bass hero...amazing technique, feel and tone. The overall playing is impeccable. However, I have to agree it's all sounding the same. Quote
NickH Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 HOLY CRAP that bass player is a dude! I thought it was a girl on the video but the band's website says otherwise Quote
risingson Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 They don't do it for me, obviously talented but the novelty has long worn off and it isn't as interesting to listen to as their first effort. Quote
Chris Horton Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 a little samey but it is kinda their trade mark. what awesome bass player , still a million times better than i could ever be Quote
Prime_BASS Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012
Take out the Vocals and it sounds like the intro music to Gran tourismo.
Hahahahaha! http://youtu.be/BRXJv37ma98 Quote
urb Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I love it overall - a bit "Smurfs sing Adele" on the vocal side but musically amazing - I know what you're all saying and the original IS still a great song and if this turns a new generation of kids on to learning their instruments and exploring harmony and rhythms beyond more X-Factor style karaoke - then for me it's job done... Quote
chardbass Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I love their stuff but this one left me a little cold. Song choice was poss the main culprit- I think they are at their best fleshing out and over-orchestrating relatively bland pop. The drop down for 2nd verse, the acrobatic vocals etc made it a little predictable. Thought the drummer's part was more stand-out than usual which was cool. Quote
molan Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I'd love to hear a whole album, I think they could pull it off Quote
thepurpleblob Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 They're a bit of a one trick pony at the moment. A shame because they are potentially fabulous. Their cover of Britney's Circus was, IMO, jaw-dropping. This is a bit dull in comparison. Quote
wombatboter Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I don't like it...I get the feeling they are trying more to impress than to move people.. The arrangement is also too busy for me..every gap there is, someone has to fill in and this song makes me just nervous. I'm fond of some fusion pop but they ruined a good song with this Frankfurt Music Fair-approach. Can't imagine listening to more than two songs in a row..however great they play, it starts to get predictable. Quote
Alec 'Aleb' Mills Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 The cliche of 'less is more' comes to mind. I perfer the original (unfortunately) to this one. They've efffed the song up to the point where the only recognisable bit are the lyrics (just). I also think its way too busy. Quote
lowdown Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I like this band, all the playing is great. Top players. The first few tunes they covered were good, not because of the tunes particularly, but the way they Orchestrated and harmonised them, so they have made their point [and very well] I just truly hope they start letting out some of their own original material, [if indeed they have any] instead of some of the twee pop tunes. [not all] Its time for them to move on - unless their fans & mates are quite happy to listen to relentless covers. jakenewmanbass Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I can't help just having an overriding feeling that their achievement is great, so whether or not I like it is actually immaterial, they are playing to very high standards and clearly having a pile of fun doing it. Quote
Monckyman Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I would be reaching for a razor if I had to engineer this lot. Virtuoso playing flawlessly delivered for that perfect B&Q soundtrack. What exactly is the point? Did I mention how smug they looked? Well they do. Quote
Marvin Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I was going to give a measured response, but on listening to it now 4 or 5 times, the more I've listened to it the more and more I dislike it. Technically great, yes they are, but nothing in that performance touches or inspires me. Considering they are technically very good, I found what they did totally predictable, so in a musical sense, (in the broadest sense) very wanting. Quote
OliverBlackman Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 this is one of dirty loops greatest hits http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=0LXQYAphr0M Quote
