Spoombung Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Spotted this on Steve Moses' Facebook page; Percy playing an Ibanez Grooveline. Why am I not surprised at this? Edited April 26, 2012 by Spoombung Quote
Clarky Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 [sub]Seems logical after his AFR series and Ibanez connections. One uK retailer claims to have the Grooveline in stock BTW http://www.fairdealmusic.co.uk/musical-instruments/guitars-1/bass-guitar/ibanez-g104-nt.html[/sub] Quote

Tried one at the bass show - loved the ergonomics but it was he same old Ibanez, inbetweeny, generic sound. Still too expensive to persuade me toward a purchase, though, so I'm keeping an eye out for any mods they do to the design, ie, better pickups and a return to the slimmer SR neck ( the grooveline has a fatter neck) Quote
Spoombung Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 I notice an absence of magnetic pickups... as usual! Quote
crez5150 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 These should be in the stores now as we (Headstock) have been shipping them out recently Quote

dmccombe7 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 appears to have a wide string spacing or is it just my eyes playing tricks. Dave Quote

Spoombung Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 A video has emerged: Quite a clanky tone, rough tone to my ears.... Quote
Emanew Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Yes, it deserves a better sound recording, especially drums. I like the moments when the instruments turn white...night vision camera Quote
Clarky Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 It's like Percy has just got progressively less nice sounding fretless basses each time he moves on. Reminds me of a thread to that effect I posted a few months back when I put forward my view that his nicest, woodiest tone was actually with his fretless Precision back in ealy Brand X days, followed by his Wal in later Brand X days http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163053-percy-jones-fretless-tone/page__p__1525888__hl__percy%20jones__fromsearch__1#entry1525888 Quote

You can hear him very clearly on the Wal in the more noisy situation of Brand X because it has a pokey mid- range. But now you can barely hear him because he's looking for a sort of double bass hybrid sound that doesn't stand up well to noisy guitars and drums he seem s to favour... and he's playing a 5 string which makes him even more inaudible. Someone should talk to him about it. Edited June 21, 2012 by Spoombung Quote
