Mog Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Anyone here play in a Stoner/Desert rock band? Looking for some new bands to listen to. Quote
Wooks79 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) I'm not in them, but Black Moth from Leeds are great! Give them a listen! I'm guessing you've already listened to the usual names (truckfighters, earthless, qotsa, etc etc) I do very much want to join a band like this though Edited April 27, 2012 by Wooks79 Quote
dannybuoy Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I quit one 6 months ago - Crybaby Deathmatch. Their current bassist will be moving overseas soon so they will be looking again soon! They are London based though Wooks so might be a bit far. But if you just want some new stuff to listen to have you checked out Acid King? Quote
BigRedX Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 +1 for Black Moth. Did a gig with them last year. Quote
Mog Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Cheers for the replies lads. Checking out Black Moth as I type. Been through most of the bigger names and needed something fresh. Listening to Undersmile a lot lately. More sludge/doom than stoner but they still have a nice desert vibe going on in places. Edit: Block Moth are Fookin savage! Edited April 27, 2012 by Mog Quote
Mog Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Just to return the favour heres a band we used to play with, sadly finished up for the moment. BEST SONG EVA! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-_Q_CY3XME Quote
ben604 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 My mate is the bassist in Conan. They're proper doom, barely a distinguishable note played they're tuned so low! Just about to support Sleep in Scandinavia too.. Quote
yorick Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Have a listen to Shebrew.. mates' band, so an unashamed plug, as they are rather good Quote
dannybuoy Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I can list a few smaller bands I've seen locally: Zocalo Steak Slabdragger Snakebite XII Boar Sea Bastard Gouranga Iron Witch Quote
thumbo Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I used to play in a stoner rock band, it was great fun. I wish we'd pushed the band more but it was just something we worked at over a couple of summers whilst the guys in the band were back from uni http://soundcloud.com/whatnow123/high-willhays-b-o-b Quote
Monckyman Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Anything involving Josh Homme or Mark Lanegan going back to Screaming Trees, Masters of Reality/Kyuss, up to and including Queens of the stone age and Eagles of Death metal. Man`s a genius. Also you could try a bit of Goblin Cock <snigger> Don`t snigger, they`re excellent. http://youtu.be/uSA3NXM-VTM Quote
D.I. Joe Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Kyuss Orange Goblin Bongzilla Goatsnake Slo Burn Slowwwwww and lowwwwww Quote
dwh87 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I am other fan of Slabdragger and Iron Witch. Monolithian are another great band who deserve a listen. A power duo of heavy dirty bass and pounding drums. Quote
KingBollock Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 The Bass player for Serpent Venom is a great chap. http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Serpent_Venom/3540310420 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOLVPl5YE3E Quote
thodrik Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I have formed countless of stoner type bands that then change into something entirely different. The latest one is looking promising. I generally just go to Heavy Planet to find new bands. Over Christmas I got seriously into a US band called Elder. Stoner with old school prog/psychedelic tendencies. Generally I find at least one cool band a month. Quote

Gotta put in a bit of taint as well. Saw them play loads with clutch back in the day. Toast Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Bass guitar seems to be particularly prominent in stoner rock, what with OM and the stoner-esque Death From Above 1979. Quote
grahamd Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Electric Wizard are well worth checking out. I always class Fu Manchu as stoner too Quote
Mog Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Cheers for the replies folks. A few bands I hadnt heard before. Really like the sound of Sungazer. Looks kinda like the Thor I sold to Rose Kemp. Kinda wished I'd had a look inside it first, they are very rare. Quote

It is a Thor that he bought from a chap in Brighton that apparently came from a bunch that were discovered in an industrial unit in Milton Keynes a while ago. The cab is a Soundcity Quote
