Great call on Acid King - probably tipping Busse Woods over III, but all excellent stuff.

If people want more recommendations, shout - this is mainly just stuff I've got on my iPhone. If I'm becoming predictable and people know them all, tell me to naff off

That blog is superb, have been following it for an age now - we've got very similar tastes :)

Dude, this could go on a while

Probably also a good time to publicise the documentary. 'Such Hawks, Such Hounds' - which is a brilliant watch if you like this type of music :)

Some friends of mine run a website that was originally very stoner/doom oriented at http://www.ninehertz.co.uk/

Might be worth trawling through the reviews on there if you want to find something new. A few recommendations would be Beehoover, Witchsorrow and a +1 for Stubb.
Anyone mentioned Sleep yet?

No, but we probably should. Was avoiding the classics, as I hoped they'd be obvious to spot - but we could do a full run down?

Let's see what else we have in the tank:

Heavier, but... you knows it :)

Both have probably been mentioned already but maybe not.

The first Acid Bath album is very much death metal - the second, Paegan Terrorism Tactics (from memory) is very cool, and has a very different vibe.

The guy from Spiritual Beggars also sings for The Mushroom River Band; if you like one, you'll like the other.

Would be interested to know what gear - and particularly effects and EQ settings - people are using when playing this kind of music.

Yamaha BB415, Catalinbread SFT and Bass Big Muff, Orange AD200B and Matamp 2x12. Orange set 10 o'clock on the treble, noon on the mids, bass at 2 o'clock.

It's not for everyone, but sounds glorious used as a low gain overdrive boosting into a tube amp! Running at 18v is necessary though when using a hot bass like the BB415 to stop it farting out so much on the low notes.
