leschirons Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 The man for me, the man was always Manitas de Plata. Got turned on to his playing in the late 60's. Fabulous musician but was sometimes unconventional in his approach to traditional Flamenco. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZxkrNGfbAA Quote
Clarky Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Just wow. Saw Vicente Amigo at the Union Chapel in Islington tonight. Played a bunch of older straight-ahead flamenco favorites and his latest celtic/flamenco mix album Tierra in its entirety (excerpt below). Utterly stunning musicianship and played with real fire and passion. SImply unforgettable gig You would probably have hated it Kev/Spoombung Edited September 24, 2013 by Clarky Quote

Big_Stu Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 In the docu that preceded the 92 Seville Guitar Legends concerts Phil Manzanera introduces a flamenco player to his first time ever with an electric guitar. It starts at 56:00 but I kinda wish he'd been given longer and played solo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWw8GFSXHyw Quote

Mykesbass Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) If Flamenco/Celtic fusion upsets then perhaps Flamenco/Metal/Leonard Cohen fusion should be avoided at all costs! I personally love this album in all its ridiculous glory Edited December 5, 2014 by Mykesbass Quote
deepbass5 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Just spent over an hour and a half going through this thread, many thanks to all, love flemenco. thought the Metalica clip was great. My contribution would be Miami sound machine Live in Miami when Jorge Casas swapped his Tune 5 string for a spanish guitar, go from 33 min if you don't have time but carry on to 46 to catch him in full bass swing but also worth seeing from 26 min, oh just watch the lot Jorge is great though every number shows how a bass should be mixed in a stadium. plenty of Spanish rythmes to get ya teeth into. here is the whole concert - the Spanish have a lot to answer for Edited December 6, 2014 by deepbass5 Quote
