Actually, it's very good and very safe, we're over 200 miles away from the conflict, playing in a Western/English bar that stays open very late so most people end up there during the evening.

Having a blast, kept my GB's at home though.

Mike
Good to hear man. So how long are you out there for?

- Aha! The GBs are home you say Mike...?

Steve - are you up for a mission to Mike's house to bring the GBs back to the Midlands...?

Lets see this rumour!!

All in good time my man. I'll probably lob some pictures up tonight.

The single coils are certainly a different sound. A slap monster. I understand why James D went for them in his Spitfire. The switch position is quite interesting also - in the up position, it's pretty much like a regular Rumour in the down "hi fi position" and in the down position, it's proper old school. Having a look at the circuit at the back, it looks like some caps have been put in to take all the top end out and give it a super p bass thud tone. Don't know what to make of it at the moment - I'll have take it out on a few gigs to make my mind up!

Swamp ash core - pretty light. It's dinky, comfortable and fast as f....

Flame maple neck, quilted top and back, cherry stringers... macassa ebony board.

A bit different to my other two. Variety is the spice of life!

Lovely bass! Your right about the single coils, they're a bit of a revalation to me! I've still got to get my switch sorted, it's just a volume boost at the mo, was thinking of going for the hi fi sound on one and old school on the other.

My status basses are getting a bit scared, I'm tempted to go GB 100%, a 5 string is on my shopping list now.

So what you reckon to the single coils then... say compared to your Rumour? The switch from hifi to old school is very bizarre - it's like the two extremes!

100% GB! Man, you are getting as bad as me!

This is actually for a guitar.

The guitar? Well, it's still much in it's infancy. All I know is that it is going to be an original Bernie shape. It's meant to be having the LED controller circuit in it, piezo... and as for the circuit, that's still in the air. I'm sure Bernie knows what he's doing. ;)

Quite right. I'm sorry. ;)
OK - go on then. Like James I am intrigued!!
That's about as far as it has got so far!

Bernie has actually made a few guitars I'm led to believe. He has a telecaster type body guitar that he is working on that he showed me. Beautiful colour and scratchplate combo. Really unusual. I think that has taken the back burner though due to the number of builds he has got on.

Those keener eyed GB fans who have happened to stumble across X Factor on the tele will have seen the odd appearance of a GB Telecaster on stage (although I am guessing the player was miming... that show is such a cheat!)

This particular guitar will be the first one that is a Bernie original shape as he has been given more of a free reign to do what he wants. Again, I believe that it currently destined to be bolt-on and Rumour-esque. I know in the last round of dicussions, Bernie mentioned that there was the possibilty of using the Rumour circuit and modifying it for guitar but whether that actually passes through to more than a prototyping phase - your guess is as good as mine! We'll just have to see when the day of birthing arrives!

Those who know Bernie know that's he quite useful when it comes to playing the bass - he is also a more than capable guitar player!

So there you go. That's pretty much what I know.

Cooooooool! That's another one for the shopping list! Would love to see it when finished, plus your other gb's too!

Going back to the spitfire and pickups, I'm working on an album of bass driven instrumentals, (hopefully will get on to iTunes later in the year) and I'm so taken with the sound of the single coils that I'm gonna rerecord most of the parts with the spitfire!

This one's not for me. Although that wood is pretty tasty huh?? It's for a friend of mine... but yeah, I'll make sure I get the photos as and when.

Would you class Cheltenham as Midlands or South West - always a point of debate. Anyhow my GB Rumour should be heading up this way in just over a month. If you class it as Midlands then that is another one!!!
PS - that's another GB coming up to the Midlands ;)
What does it matter? It's not going anywhere near Cheltenham. It's going straight home with me ;)

Now I reckon that my 4 would be a great match for Gabbie - Bernie says that they are going to be quite similar when they are finished!

I know who I can ask about buying it should I ever want to move it on. ;)

You don't seem to understand.

It comes home with me regardless :)

-and don't swear. You don't move GBs on. They just come home to me. :P

After waiting for this long I am certain that I will never want to send her home to you!

How come you get down to Bernie's so much - I have been twice as it is a fair old trip for me. I would like to have gone down recently to sort out the fingerboard stuff but just didn't have the time.

BTW attached a pic of the new fingerboard for others to see as I know you have seen it already.

Come to think of it you have seen more of my bass then I ever have! :P
