Hey James - you a Prince fan? Just listening to "Let's Work" and the bass line reminds me of you hehe... Maybe not the singing though :)

Can't say fairer than that - free t-shirt with every bass.

Saw Bentley in the flesh today too - that is a sweet bass! Couldn't resist a quick noodle on her!!!

It certainly is worth the wait - it plays fantastic and is everything that I was hoping it would be. I think I have said this before but the fantastic thing about Bernie's basses are that not only do they look fantasic but they play and sound amazing too. For me this just combines everything that I am looking for in a guitar and is well worth both the cost and the wait.

I think that there is also something very special in working with the guy that it is building it for you and being involved in the whole process from start to finish - having always had mass produced instruments (even Warwick) this is just completely different. Who would want a Fender???

Now I know people rate other luthiers such as Shuker etc but Bernie is a gem, a real character and IMHO also happens to build the best guitars in the world! I would recommend him to anyone with no hesitation whatsoever.
Aye its a sweet bass. The walnut really works, they just look so understated classy. When you see them in the flesh, you just can't help being drawn in my them. Bet you are well chuffed Mark. Worth the wait eh? They just feel and sound... "right" don't they? I love them anyway.

J - You pinning your hopes on Vegas for accelerated putting the name down on the board eh?!
Got my now really black fretless back with black lightweight knobs and black Hipshot lightweight bridge and tuners. Looks the dogs danglies and weighs half a pound less. Its not much but noticable at the end of a set. Its even got a black locking jack socket by cannibalising an XLR cos Bernie did not have any. Just one little chrome switch left. Bernie wants to try single coils and the new pre-amp with the "trad" switch as well.

Hot news is Bernie and Dick are developing some new pickups to be made in house. Tried the first one on a passive jazz - wow. They are gonna be hot hot hot.

I am sure if the wood was suitable he would be able to do something with it... as for making it cheaper... well, there is only one man who can answer that question...

All quiet from Guns? Must be love :D

Done 2 gigs now with Gracie and all is not well. Dont know what Andre has done to it :) Think I will go single coil and the new pre with the precision switch. Sounded good on a red Rumour that Bernie has laying around that appears to be nameless

Hi Guys,

Sorry - been busy since Thursday!

Rehearsal with the bass was fantastic - the guys thought that it looked amazing and were even more gobsmacked when they heard it. I have to say that it plays like a dream and has a really tight sound.

I am loving it through my rig too - nice and bright but still with a very tight and focussed sound.

Used it on a live session that we did for a local BBC radio station and was pleased with the sound from that too.

All in all 150% happy and yes Ferret I think it is love!!

It is true though Bernie does make the best guitars in the world.

Ready to go In Swaffham, saturday night. The coldest gig Ive ever done, outside in a Marquee with no heat bar the mad dancing women.
But as usual "Libby" sounded huge, and is such a delight to play.

sadly , (although having had an absolute blast in Vegas) i got raped on the Blackjack and craps tables, so the next one is going to have to wait a while, however i did bring back enough to get some LED's put in my Spitfire, so i'll be contacting Bernie soon! mmmm, controller, or no controller!?!

that Ed Roman's is a complete joke!! they had a Status S2 in there, second hand, nothing particulary special about it, poor set up, and they wanted $8000 for it!!!!!!!!

Not heard that Prince track, will have to check it out.

James.

Aw no... onslaught at the tables huh..? The chips are meant to be heading your way - not towards the banker! Ugh... anyway, LEDs are good investment. You gotta go for the controller though!

Yeah - Ed Roman's is exactly that. A joke. The Status is likely to have that price because a ) it's Vegas b ) it's Ed Roman's c ) the Status is from far off shores (hence no American will buy one anyway - only the rich tourists who won't know you can get one from the UK for cheaper. Maybe you should have taken your Statii with you and pawned them in. Say that you only wanted $4000 each for them... given the profits that he is looking to make, yours would probably be up for $12000).

Cool!! i'm popping down on Saturday to drop off my Spitfire (for Led's) and pick up my Rumour (fitted with new led power supply) hopefully he'll have a few there to drool over. ( better leave the chequebook at home).

What LEDs have you decided to go for in the end?

The one he was last working on is due to go out today. The finish looks a bit like Mike Brookes red Rumour apparently. If I get any pics I shall post them up here.

I was talking about the phantom power solution with Bernie the other day. 5 din plug right? I think he wants to fit it to Gabbie but I'm not too bothered - I don't use the LEDs that much so battery consumption not a big issue for me! Having said that, my next one - the show bass - will probably be fitted with phantom.

As promised... this thread has been overdue a proper update with some proper pictures. Time to change that.

So... this is a Rumour that has been completed today - and it's a bit special. Thought I'd give you a sneak before it heads up to it's new owner in Liverpool.

Check out the bookmatched billets on the rear of that neck... outrageous woods and a cool burst on the body. A different lacquer has been used on this bass - it really reacts with the light and hence depending upon which angle you view the bass, you get an outrageous change in colour... pinks through to orange and reds to brown.

Cool vibe? What do you think?
