Long before you had it! - just after it had been built.

Was thinking there was only one 4er with a maple neck, so was madly checking the birdseye on mine against the pic! whateer happened to the jazz pupped one, i saw it when id was a satin finish, and i think they look way better in gloss, it had a super bound neck tho, thats all i would have added to mine i think.

Hardly! There are loads of Spitfires with maple necks out there!
So does the red one not have "Spifire" on it by choice or cause it was a special off normal spec?
Probably - I seem to recall that it has the EBS electronics in it, P pickup and none-spitfire scratchplate. Not really Spitfire-esque?!

Ah - yeah, yours is the only 4er with the maple fingerboard and non laminated headstock.

You'll need to get it's number. Bernie would be able to tell you the specifics from his little book in which he keeps details of every GB that is built. If it's a particularly memorable bass to him, he will be able to tell you quite a bit off the top of his head.

What I can tell you is that it's an earlier example due to two things... a) the control layout - it has the Standard/original Spitfire 4 in a line electronics as opposed to the Rumour electronics. :) the cutaway fingerboard. Fingerboards are now shaped to a point in the centre of the board.

I like the subtle burst on the headstock. Nice one!

Is that the one Mark King used for the Ohne Filter show or is it just built to the exact same specs??
