Through the bridge would be a start... and I'm not convinced by the wraps round the string posts.

Hi all, owns up to being the lucky owner of the Angel fretless five, just took delivery at the end of last week.. it's easily the best fretless I've ever played (and that includes two Wal MkIII fives). The finish is well.. STUNNING and the mahogay back allows a real fretless growl, as it's a 34" Bernie has slightly reduced the headstock to maintain proportion and the logos are in a Dark Brown to go with the finish. I'm away 'til the start of next week but will post some pix when I get back.
The bass also has Bernies' newest finish on the back of the neck... wow, silkiest fastest feel ever.
Sorry need to stop drooling... pity I can't change user mane to Spitfire5... Mods?.. It's THAT good.

Andy

p.s. been a bit of a protracted affair as I hummed and hawed a lot before making the move..thanks to EBS_Freak for the advice at the start of the journey and especially to Bernie for the top notch support and service as usual.

Yup, it certainly looks the business. I'm pretty certain thats all that wood has gone now. There is still a guitar to come out from Bernie's shop... but that could be the end of the Angels... for now at least! I think the circuit it is really suited to fretless, the powerful mids really do the biz. Your 6 certainly sounded amazing... and still does, though it is now fretted.

The satin silky finish on the neck is amazing isn't it? The finishes just keep getting better! The colour matching of the logos is fairly new and it certainly makes a big difference!

Anyway, glad you are sorted now!

PS You can do a username change! Just shout ped or something.

How does the 34" compare on the 5 string?. Is it purely a physical preference or does it effect sound? I know his B strings are rock solid so I'm sure there's room for movement in that respect. Lovely looking stuff as usual..

To me - and I've tried both, there is no significant difference between the two... the longer scale probably gives a slightly more piano like B than the 34...

I certainly would challenge anybody to hear a difference between the two, especially on a gig - I suspect the clarity of that bottom B is helped by the preciseness of the pickups, combined with the circuit.

There is a slight difference in the feel of the two - but again, only noticable if you are specifically looking for it and used to how a 35" B feels... I've got used to the feel of a 35 B and that is my preference. I believe Rumour 6 main reason for a change to the 34" is because he was used to that scale... and as a fretless player, that inch makes all the difference.

Absolutely. If it was a 5... I would have had it!

Ok, so how about some sound clips to hear this beauty??
It went to me, then off to a guy in London via this forum, Damon42 or somthing like that, a MK fan with a few GB's if I remember rightly.
I played this for a while, gigged it a few times, but was moving more toward an extra strings at the time

Not many neck thru spitfires around?

Wouldn't mind another GB spitfire, but would prefer something more solid colour than the exquisite stained wood finishes Bernie produces! Someone was selling a white bass for a while (Ian I think?) should have had that when it was available (kicks self hard) anyone know where that is now?

Tony
And I've still got it! Lovely bass. Not seen another GB like it. How long ago did I buy it from you? 3 years? 4?

Cheers D

Tis beautiful. I've said it before, the GB circuit really is exceptional on fretless. The power from mids and the strength of the back pickup means you can burp and mwaaahahhhh until the cows come home!

Few new things underway... looking forward to this Spitfire 6... and looking forward to mine!
