Nice, slick neck, slightly bigger than what I'm used to, but soon adjusted! Action was way to low for me, was like butter but way too buzzy! There is a problem with the bass as a result of shipping, but I haven't contacted the seller yet, so will update on this later.
Very pleased overall, owned a Rumour before so kind of new what to expect.
My valve rig probably ain't the best set up to do this bass justice, but I have been considering a small combo for practice in my flat!

Somehow, the p/up pan pot has sheared off! The bass was very well packed, not sure how it's happened!

Looks like the bass will go back to bernie as the pot is hardwired to the board.

Really good communication with the seller, the guy has been really helpful!

This 1st 2 are about where the full spec prices start. As ex-show instruments they are a damn good deal over the price of having similar built to your spec.

Not feeling it with the Rumour right now!

Blend pot damaged in transit, seller was going to speak to BG about getting it repaired, but not heard anything, need to follow this up today

Also, set up was awful, very low buzzy action, no relief in the neck at all, been tweeking truss rod and doing what I would call a regualr set up, not there yet. More relief in the neck, but very buzzy arounf frets 1/2/3, need to check tonight after neck has settled.
If it goes back to Bernie I will get him to set it up as it is not very playable right now.
Was expecting a low action, I know bernies basses are capable of this and the MK slap type fraternity, do like set ups that are low and a bit rattly!

Just a bit dissapointed with the money I have spent, would have been nice to be able to play "out of the box"

Sorry to hear your problems with the Rumour... but take heart that once it's all fixed up, you still have a bargain - that Rumour would come it at over 3k new. As you say, just a bit of a bummer that it requires so tweaking. You've had a Rumour before right - so you know how they can play.

As a matter of course, I'd get it back to Bernie for a once over. These basses are set up to the player so it may need some adjustment to get it to play right for you. Not a lot of people can play my basses because they are too low and rattle too much. For me, with a light touch, they play perfectly. Combined with the fact you don't know what people have done with their basses once they have left Brighton, it may be overdue a magic touch.

From what you describe, its sounds like the strings are too low in the nut for you. I'm sure Bernie will build the nut back up for you and certainly a pot replacement is not an issue. In fact, given the age of that that Rumour, I think Bernie has changed to since changed to better pots (smoother running, electronically and mechanically more reliable) so it may be worth getting it serviced just for that.

Yeah, I know it's gonna be right, as you rightly pointed out, I have had one before, so I know how good they are!

Just could have done without all the messing about right now (but that's another story!)

I've not heard from the seller, he was going to ring Bernie!, Going to try catch up with him today and then call Bernie myself

I went Manchester to just north of London last week and with a bit of running around, put £100 of fuel in my car! Courier is cheaper I think, you must be doing 70 miles / gallon lol!
I would like to get down, make a weekend of it, but just cant do it now!

The bass has settled down nicely now, would like to get the action down a touch, but I'll leave that to Bernie. There was absolutley no relief in the neck, it was almost going back the wrong way!
I'm stuck with no blend pot until the bass goes to Bernie, but enjoying playing it this week, which is why it hasn't been sent yet!

I've yet to get my Rumour back to Bernie and I guess he's at the guitar show this weekend!

I will be speaking to Bernie later this year about a Spitfire in blue, like the other Sheps 5 string from a while back :-)
