fingerz Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Gorgeuos daphne blue Spitfire. Is that a standard GB circuit? I don't see them with a stacked pot too often.. Quote
No it's a rumour circuit - when I ordered the build from Bernie I asked if he could put in the full rumour electronics but married to the 'in line' jazz style control layout as I think that looks better on the spitfires rather than the 'rumour' control layout. Of course being a custom builder, he said yes! (It does mean a stacked bass/mid pot though as the other 3 are pup pan, volume & treble) Quote

By the way, I'm pretty certain that the two designs (spitfire/rumour) share the same circuit. At least that's what I understood. Not that it matters of course. Enjoy the bass, I bet it almost plays itself! Quote
EBS_freak Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Historically, the two had different circuits. The "better" circuit was reserved for the Rumour... but what happened is that the Spitfire and Rumour technologies got to the point where they were becoming very similar. Some people actually say that their fave GB circuit was the original Standard/Spitfire circuit. It still sounds distinctly GB but there is a subtle difference in the sound. It got to the point where it became sensible to move both designs onto the Rumour circuit as the development of the Spitfire circuit was prohibited by the lack of real estate on the PCB. (the original Spitfire PCBs were side mounted as opposed to flat mounted like they are in the Rumour) To get the inline effect with the modern circuit, Bernie simply puts the pots on flying leads instead of soldering the posts direct to the PCB. EBS_freak Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Sneaky peak for you. Introducing the Merlin single cut prototype. This is a 500 year old yew facing, sourced locally in Sussex, with sycamore core and purple heart feature line. Purple heart dot inlays... and a few other innovations that Bernie is yet to announce to the public (PS, it's to do with the pickups). Merlin - well, it's the engine of the Spitfire, a wizard... take your pick. Quote
EBS_freak Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Almost forgot...There's an all black version on the way too... Quote
Gunsfreddy2003 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Have to say that I am not a massive fan of those non cutaway designs I think the look weird - lovely wood though and good to see Bernie delivering something new. Quote
visog Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Coo... that's erm interesting. It's kind of got a Spitfire body and the peg-head reminds me of his old 90's basses. Would love to have a go and compare with my regular Spitfire. I'm sure the sound and playability will be Bernie's usual high standard, even if you're not keen on the looks. Quote
TheGreek Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Not sure about this yet....time may change my mind Quote
TheGreek Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I've been looking at this...anybody else think that the bottom horn is about 2" too long?? Shouldn't it finish level with the 22nd fret?? Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Looks like an old fashioned can opener! Handy for opening a can of worms then....lol Quote
EBS_freak Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 And here's one with Bernie himself... this time a solid black finish. Quote
