Hi.

Not bass related but couldn't find a better place to post. I am looking for a bit of kit to regularly record talking voice for the web. It should be simple to use (press to record and stop), installable (so it doesnt walk), network accessible (so the recording can be edited from a networked computer and published to the web) and maybe produce low bitrate (to keep stuff small). The closest I can find is the Marantz PDM580 but it's way too expensive. I am wondering if there is something else.

I can't think of anything with all that in one box. Would you not just use a computer with a simple sound recorder which defaults to saving to a shared network location?

Hi. That is the obvious solution but It introduces to many steps. e.g don't want to have to turn a computer on just to record someone talking.

May seem a bit out of left field but maybe a second hand Alesis HD24?

Would be significantly cheaper than the Marantz, and has ftp server built in.

Overkill really I know.

HD24s never seem to go that cheap? The FTP function is great though - used to use them at uni

If you had an old laptop you could leave it on all the time, it's not going to consume that much energy

£600 on ebay:-

Cant even find a price for a Marantz PDM580 though so I dont know what the target is to be honest :D
