iPad and Garageband - transferring to another computer

I recorded a few ideas with the band last week using Garageband on an iPad - the iPad belongs to the guitarist. As I have an iMac I thought it would be fairly easy to copy what was recorded and re-record my parts at home on my edition of Garageband.

However, being the dumb git I am I don't seem to be able to work out how to do it as they have no USB ports etc. They seem to be fairly tightly locked up?

I've only done it once, months ago, but if I remember rightly you have to import the project through iTunes to get it into GarageBand. The iPad (and iPhone, iPod) has a proprietary connector but the other end of it USB. Not sure you can transfer mac to iPad, but you can definitely do iPad to mac.
