***NO LONGER FOR SALE DUE TO SUCKING BEYOND BELIEF***

Bass for sale that I haven't actually seen yet.

Bought from a twattish German seller on eBay last year. After five months, two dozen emails, complaints to eBay and PayPal and a brief investigation by the Polizei in Hannover, it's finally on its way to me. In the meantime I've bought a fretless Stingray from a fellow Basschatter, so I don't want or need this bass. Currently it is in BRAND NEW CONDITION!, but I will probably open it when it arrives out of curiosity.

It's due to arrive on Friday according to the UPS tracking gizmo, looking for offers in the region of £100 from anyone who can collect it from me here in sunny York. I could ship it but I don't know what the costs would be (according to UPS it weighs 8.9kgs packed). If nobody's interested I'll stick it back on eBay and thoroughly enjoy writing lots of nasty remarks about the original seller into my item description. :)

Here's some info straight from the eBay description. This bass has some fantastic features that you will not find ANYWHERE ELSE:

"The H&S Sequoia II-6-FRL is a fretless bass with great power of self-assertion."
Does your bass have great power of self-assertion? Didn't think so.

"For the Sequoia II-6-FRL we use solid bassood for its body connected with Maple for the neck this combination promises its endless sustain."
Two key features to note here: Endless sustain is promised - not a figuratively-speaking endless sustain but literally sustain that they promise does not end! Also the body is made from "bassood", which sounds pretty exotic. I saw another bass they made out of "Basswod" which also sounded interesting. I was waiting for them to make one from "Asswood" but sadly that never happened.

"The form of the body is ergonomically and because of the balance body / neck you get this convenient Playability without top-heaviness."
This bass is so good that nobody even gives a toss about basic grammar any more.

It's passive, has two volume and two tone pots, 24-fret neck, rosewood board, 34" scale, weighs 4.9kgs, and as far as I know it looks like this:

Glad to hear it's finally coming :) If it's anything like my two H&S basses, it will in fact be a very nice bass, so I hope no one writes it off because of the company.

I'm too far from York and I'd probably get lynched for buying another, but www.senditnow.com will ship it for £13.99 guarenteed noon next day. Used them dozens of times.

Yeah I literally had to send the rozzers round to get the bass out of them but it's on its way. Thanks for the shipping info.

In all honesty I only bought this bass because a friend of mine bought a cheap fretless 5, and I wanted to get a 6 for less money than he paid for his 5. That friend has asked "Have you got your bass yet?" almost every day for the last five months, so you could say the plan backfired a bit!

OK it just turned up in the post... Well, a bass turned up, but it's the one with humbuckers, not soapbars - after all that they sent me the wrong ****ing one!

First impressions: Not great. Seems there wasn't a single corner left un-cut in the making of this bass. Maybe it would set up OK but frankly I can't be bothered. The finish on the body has a few spotty imperfections and there are some pinhead-sized dings around the neck joint, looks like some of the drilling might've been done after the finish went on judging by the raw look of the jack socket. There's no finish on the back of the neck either - nothing at all. Feels like playing a fencepost. I'm not helping to sell this thing am I?

On the positive side, the B string's actually not bad. That's all I've managed to find on the positive side. Well, structurally it's fine, and it balances alright on a strap too.

Ah screw it none of you were going to buy it anyway. :)

The finishing around the jack socket has been picked up by everyone I've spoken to who has one. The fretted sequoias had humbuckers with exposed poles, so maybe you've just got a fretless version of that.

All of my fretless basses have the dots in between the "frets" rather than at the note position, so I wouldn't say that was an "error"

If you catch mine in the right light you can see a few spots under the laquer that look like dust settled before it was finished, but you do have to look for them.

I agree on the size of the neck, but I like that.

I think I got lucky. The other guy I know who got a 7 string had a problem with his high F, in that the whole string was dead or buzzing!. I do intend to fully review mine, but this week hasn't gone to plan. Very happy with both of mine.

I'm sure you'll sell it. When I was after a cheap 6 I was looking at the Shine basses and the ones from Thomann. I'd have snapped this up for that price.

Hi, heres an idea, why not get some basschatters to paypall you a £5.00 payment for a chance to win this bass delivered to their home, sell 25 tickets only, pick one from hat, and everyone is happy.

Just a thought
Well I'm going to stick it on eBay and list it honestly, see what it goes for. God only knows I don't want it.

If nothing else I'll have fun writing the listing. :)
I'd be in for the raffle. Either way, i might still have a bid on ebay... I can't afford what you want, and I don't want to take the piss, but if it honestly plays okay then I'll bid....

The raffle idea is pretty funny, but I don't think you'd find 25 people here who'd want it. I suppose it is a fiver...

Nah, still don't think you'd find 25 people, and they'd all have to trust me to be fair about randomly picking a winner - I don't really know any of you lot yet. Good idea though. :)

Yes I am putting it on eBay, probably later today.

Is it really that bad? I suppose it's rather subjective. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh because I had such a bad experience with the seller, and I'd already decided I didn't want it before it arrived. But then all the things I've said about it in here are true - it's not a well made bass by any stretch of the imagination.

It would probably play alright if it was set up properly, if you liked the shape of the neck (I don't). The B string is the funny bit - it actually feels good and I usually hate low B strings. The bass seems to be sound in terms of the neck joint and so on, but nothing else is right. Every time I look at it I see something else that looks really careless and rushed. They don't affect the way it plays but they just confound me totally.

I intend to be perfectly honest about it in the listing anyway, see if anyone wants it. Like you said, maybe someone's after a dirt-cheap 6, or maybe someone wants to scavenge it for parts, who knows. The saddles are quite cool and the tuners look like the ones on my old Godin, so maybe someone will want them. :)

I'm glad this is fretless. Otherwise I'd be upset - was looking for a cheapy sixer to butcher, have made other arrangements now but the H&S was the first one I considered getting hold of. I hope the other eBay cheapy I've just ordered is suitable, otherwise there'll be a post similar to this one shortly :)

My one "regret" with the 7 string is that is has an all in one rosewood bridge, rather than 7 individual saddles like that one. But I don't think i've intonated a bass in my life....

Well let us know when it's up. I'm really not a fretless player, but I will definently have a punt. I only have two 4 string fretless basses, I might need the extra strings or something....
OK well I've had time to calm down, think I'm going to be a bit more rational about the eBay listing. It's currently 7 hefty paragraphs of pretty nasty language but I think I've got it out of my system now!

I think 5 months of fury at these bastards has got the better of me.
Lol. It's a shame, really. I know they were just rebranding chinese stuff but I really do love mine and I know there are other happy customers. They could have had a good thing going.

I've picked it up a couple of times again tonight, it could be worse. The dot markers are gobsmackingly stupid, and if it wasn't for them I think I could probably get used to it. Structurally it's fine, if the neck is a bit chunky. In terms of attention to detail though I'd like to meet whoever put this through QC and introduce him to the blunt end of my Warwick.

My old Yamaha BB was the same but that was lined, and my Columbus jazz is the same. it confuses me sometimes, i guess it depends what you're used to and what you use as a guide. Didn't know stingrays were different.

I forgot to mention the rosewood nuts! I've got one on a Columbus EB-3 copy and it's lasted 30 odd years but they do look a bit fragile....

Certainly an honest listing. I've had a punt as promised and will keep an eye. Hope you get what you want.

I've had a few unlined fretlesses (a Godin thinline acoustic, a Warwick Corvette 6, a Fender USA Jazz and my first one was a cheap Tanglewood P-bass copy) and all of them had fret markers at the fret position. I think lined fretlesses don't do it, but unlined fretlesses (in my experience) always do.

Yeah, I just don't like the idea of ripping off skint musicians. I remember pre-internet it wasn't possible to do that without getting a reputation as a shyster, so everybody pretty much trusted everybody else. Maybe today it's not always as clear-cut but it is for me.

If you win it you win it, but don't expect me to explain it to your better half! Honestly I don't want to make any money out of this, I'm just trying to recoup what I can without shitting on anyone.
