Hi guys,

just looking for some ideas,

im running a workshop for a load of bass players and drummers to help them play tighter/better together in bands.

anyone got any advice that could help out?

any tips that work for you to keep it tight and compliment all the other instruments?

thanks!

Click tracks

Metronomes

How about stressing that the drummer doesn't need to do a fill at the end of every 4 bars <_<

On the beat versus Off the beat

Note lengths

Slow clapping exercise

Keeping the groove when playing 16ths

Good luck i am sure there are a lot of things you can do

Let someone other than the drummer keep time for a bit, and then give it back to the drummer for a bit - Try to make "time" exist outside of any individual role within the band....

Play the same groove at several different tempos, not necessarily quickly but definitely including excruciatingly slowly.

Give them a groove to play then ask them to play one less note. Repeat. I actually do this to myself when working on new songs with bands, partly to give myself new ideas and partly to remind myself how good a rest can sound.
