thisnameistaken Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Massive influence on me. What a sh*t week. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17963855 Quote
risingson Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 RIP, huge Beastie Boys fan, I knew he had been ill but I didn't see it coming. Quote
EdwardHimself Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Really sad news. Someone has already started a thread about this in off topic though. Quote
urb Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 That sucks beyond words... wow, Ill Communcation is one of my all time fave albums - the BBs played a big part in my formative listening life - always loved them Adam will be massively missed. Quote
urb Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Fight for your right to play bass... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE Quote
foal30 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 yes, bad news indeed. Check your Head is a top record. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 I'd heard he had cancer a couple of years back and they'd cancelled a bunch of shows and the planned album release but then they released Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 last summer I assumed he had recovered from it. Massive kick in the nuts to hear it killed him. I don't normally do 'celebrity' mourning but this guy influenced what I did before I even realised he was a bass player. Then the first effects I bought for my bass were because I'd heard Beastie Boys do it, and the first double bass I bought was because I heard Beastie Boys do it. Really sad. Quote
daz Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 (edited) R.I.P. Nathanial Hornblower. The video to Sabbotage is an all time classic, for that alone you deserve a place in Nirvana. A hugely compassionate and talented human being, who stood up to be counted. See you next time around. I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know you were in a bad way. Highfox Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Sad. Another one gone before their time I got to meet them in 87, I remember that made my day. Creative guys that were well beyond all the hype and crap of the day. Quote
spongebob Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Total shame - one of my faves....I've got all their stuff, even the hardcore, the instrumentals....love it all. Such a creative bunch....I've always admired how they genre-hop whilst keeping it real and not clichéd. 47 is no age. Quote
bartelby Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I love the bass line in Gratitude! I also love this video Quote

Mornats Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012
See you next time around
Indeed. Adam Yauch was a practicing Buddhist so he would believe in reincarnation so it's not so much a case of R.I.P but "see you next time around". Looking forward to it. Quote
