Macko1968 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Dougal - a few questions if you will indulge me. 1) What is your full postal address? 2) Do you have a dog? 3) When will you next be out? That 'ray is a thing of beauty, if you get bored of it shoot me a PM. Quote
paul, the Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 +1 All gorgeous, but I just can't keep my eyes off that Ray. I love it when something so simple has that effect on me. Quote
Machines Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I want your Bongo. Give it me or I will have to ban you. I mean it. Quote
BigRedX Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008
is that a Wishbass?
Looks as though it's been mod'd into playability... Quote
dougal Posted April 18, 2008 Author Posted April 18, 2008 Ashbory Mini Bass My son plays this, mostly. It's a nice gimmick, but never used in anger. Carvin XB75P (Tuned F#BEAD) Death Metal Bass. Koa top. Really nice player. Musicman Bongo Good all around bass. Some people don't like it. I traded in a fretless 5 thumb for it. Miss that thumb some. Best overall sounding. Atelierz Mini-CUB upright electric. http://www.atelierz.co.jp/cubpassive.htm EUB. I try. Stingray Everyone should own at least one 'ray in their life. This one could cut cheese with the sound. MIJ Jazz (w/ Badass and Lindly Fralins) Just an awesome player. Gassed for a Jazz, played about 30 in shops around Shinjuku and Shibuya. This was the best. GW #23. Best overall playing / comfort. Wish peanut 6 fretless Wish claims he makes "Paint brushes for musicians". I think he makes baseball bats with strings. It's a 6-er fretless so it gets some use. The neck takes some getting used to. I ordered it unfinished: It was far from perfect: Here's the neck, compared to a thumb fretless (fattest neck I had...) I finished it in tung oil, and fitted an adjustable bridge. It does have some nice contouring behind the neck.... Quote
gafbass02 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 i really like that jazz, just the type im hoping to swap for my Geddy, if it ever arrives! Quote
Gwilym Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 nice collection - that Carvin looks really nice, and the GW too (I had to look them up http://www.gwbasses.com/index.shtml) - how did you come by that one? Quote
Thunderthumbs Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Really nice collection that. One for every job there, eh? I'm also liking that Carvin. Looks really nice. Quote
7string Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) Very cool collection!! First Wishbass that I've seen on this forum. I've been tempted by them when I've seen one on eBay... Edited May 5, 2008 by 7string Quote
dougal Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008
nice collection - that Carvin looks really nice, and the GW too (I had to look them up http://www.gwbasses.com/index.shtml) - how did you come by that one?
I spent six years living in NY, USA - when I fell in with what I'd describe as a 'bad crowd' at www.uglybassplayer.com One of the initiation rites to the club is you have to order a bass from Grandon & then wait for over a year for it to arrive. It is the nicest player of the bunch by some margin: it just sounds flat. There's no top end 'zing' to it. Shame really because otherwise I really wouldn't need another bass (at least, that's what I tell myself...) Tempted to replace the electronics with those from the Bongo to see what happens, but the PUPs are just completely the wrong shape. Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I had no idea that GW and that wishbass were in this country. Both are really familar to look at due to UBP. Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I'm with Machines on the Bongo 5... Hand it over if you want to live, LOL! Lovely collection - What's the single cut like to play? Always wondered about one of those. Quote
Higgie Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Hmm, you seem to be missing a P bass... Haha, jokes aside - what a fantastic collection!! Quote
