AlanJ
Hi, I've been keeping an eye on a few things in the classifieds here, and thought it was rude not to introduce myself. I've been playing bass for 20 odd years, but took a big old break in the middle of it as there was children and screaming and mess. Now that they are big enough to know not to lick the plug sockets, I'm doing what I can to get playing again. I'm based in Derbyshire, currently just play in church worship, and have the following kit:

Ibanez CTB5 5-string - sentimental value only here
Status Eclipse Artist 6-string - it's a monster, awesome tone for recording
US G&L L2000 - my latest acquisition, and I'm liking it a lot
Eden N28 - this might need an upgrade soon...
I look forward to getting to know you A.

AlanJ
Hi Len, thanks for the welcome! I play at the local Methodist church in Denby Bottles, not too far out of Derby.

Len_derby
Hi Alan, Yes, I know Denby Bottles but not your church. I used to cycle or drive up to Ripley and back each day in a previous job, and the wife works in Heanor. Most of my church playing is at St. Nicholas in Allestree (near the university and Markeaton park). The most regular place my secular band plays is The Joiners in Quarndon. Do you go to any open-mics your way? Edited May 8, 2012 by Len_derby
I played a couple of weeks ago with the youth group at our church - our full website appears to have died, so this is a rather functional page from the circuit site unfortunately. I've not tried any open mic stuff yet, as I've only just really started trying to get back on the scene, and am just warming up with a few services and whatnot first. Any recommendations for decent spots to turn up and play would be very welcome though! I'm not native to Derbyshire and the last time I played regularly I lived in Yorkshire, so I'm unfamiliar with the local scene. Are you playing at the Joiners this Friday? Len_derby
Morning Alan, Thanks for the links. The youth group looks very active. Yes, we will be at The Joiners this Friday. It's going to be a bit hand-to-mouth as our usual PA man/technical backup/MC is away on holiday as are a few others. We wanted to keep the continuity of every second Friday of the month though. The whole evening (called That Pub Thing) is a low-key outreach event. We do two 30 minute sets, one at 8.30 one at 10.00. The pub are relaxed about children attending, particularly as we use the function room. We're operating as a duo at the moment and do a mixture of original songs and obscure covers. In style, country-blues-Americana is about the best pigeonhole. If you can't make this one there's always next time. Do you look like your avatar picture?
