Shylock
Is this a genuine Geddy Lee bass with a replacement neck? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4d00ff7942 Why do I ask? Because this ebayer sold two 'modified' basses in April: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330722777746 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330707335921 and if you check the feedback as a buyer this ebayer bought 3 starcaster basses, all black, over the past few months and sells a lot of necks. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280860133354 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360442641287 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200709792318 Hmm very interesting but how can you tell? chrismuzz
I don't know much about this sort of thing... But I would be willing to trust this seller on the basis that the other two basses that he sold in April quite clearly has Fender decals, but were quite openly being sold as modified Squiers Nevertheless, someone in the know will pop in soon enough I'm sure! LukeFRC
given that he's said the neck is a replacement I can't see why not- 70's position jazz bodies aren't that common and you can't really fake a badass (can you?)

LukeFRC
Yes
really?! I wouldn't of thought people would bother. Part of me thinks a fake bad ass is just a big high mass bridge with a fake stamping of the word badass on it.

Al Heeley
So he buys an £820 quid bass where one of the defining features is the ultra slim neck on the GL, then fits a £390 repacement neck on it and sells it for £325? My geddy jazz has flush pickup pole pieces. Sounds too good to be true, which normally means it is.... gjones
The pickup poles are correct for the Vintage Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups the Geddy has fitted as standard. They're not flush with the cover they're tapered like the bass shown on ebay (or at least my ones were). It has a Japanese style scratchplate, a badass bridge and the rear pickup is in the 70s position. So when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. It's definitely A Geddy.
Magnolia
If I was buying a(nother) Geddy and thinking about this one i'd ask for pics with the pickguard off to see how the neck pickup is routed. If its a starcaster body then I'm sure it won't be as neat as a Geddy. I would also ask to see under the control plate, mainly to see what wiring looks like and if the pickups have the cloth cables as are found on the vintage pickups used on Geddys It looks legit though, other than the neck...obviously. If I was looking to get another Geddy I'd stay away from this one though.
Al Heeley
hmm, no tapered pole pieces on mine, its a MIJ 2010, maybe they changed them, maybe mine's not legit?!
the boy
I'd be very surprised if this wasn't legit, I've had dealings with Dave from bluebass (the seller) and he is sound. 100% reliable and honest in my opinion.
northstreet
The defining feature of a GL Jazz is the neck - very slim, painted on blocks and binding, and Geddy's moniker on the headstock. So whatever this is, it isn't a Geddy Lee.
the boy
The neck is all parts I think the question is over the body, and like I said id be surprised if it wasn't legit as the guy selling it is a decent bloke based on dealings I've had with him. gjones
Aha The exact pickups! But frankly I don't think it's worth what he's asking. £250 tops as most Geddys go for £400 to £450 secondhand and people like the Geddy's for the neck. If it ain't got the neck then nobody's that interested.
